HGK Shines in 2024 with Record Results
Jun 14, 2025 at 8:16 PMNeuenburg am Rhein (DE) celebrated its topping-out ceremony last week: The second Galaxus hall in the southern Baden city is taking shape. It covers more than 60,000 square meters, making it twice the size of the Munich Allianz Arena. Galaxus is looking for 1,000 new employees for the operation of the logistics center.
(Neuenburg am Rhein) The quaint Neuenburg am Rhein (population around 13,000) will celebrate its 850th anniversary in 2025. And indeed, if you will, a new “era” is beginning for the city this year. The Swiss online retailer Galaxus will soon launch the first of two logistics centers and is set to become the largest employer in the city in the medium term. Around 1,000 experts in online retail, logistics, technology, human resources, facility management, and more are being sought.
Galaxus will operate two halls with a storage area of 90,000 square meters and office space in Neuenburg. The topping-out ceremony for the larger of the two halls (60,000 square meters) took place on June 5. Construction company Köster invited all local tradespeople involved in the construction, as well as neighbors, politicians, media, and thankfully also the tenant Galaxus, to enjoy sausages, drinks, and a party. Neuenburg’s mayor Jens Fondy-Langela also spoke to the guests, reaffirming the city’s support. Neuenburg is emerging, vibrant, and wants to seize the opportunities of the European market.
Future-proof and European employer
Here, Galaxus fits perfectly as a purely European online retailer with locations in Switzerland, Germany, and Serbia. This was also emphasized by Galaxus COO Michael Stolle in front of the assembled guests, who encouraged everyone to visit the website. This could be a viable path, especially in light of the looming US tariffs and boycott efforts against American retailers.
“Galaxus is an exciting, future-proof, and European employer,” said Michael Stolle. Recruitment is in full swing for Neuenburg, with the first employment contracts already signed. The first of the two halls will be operational in October 2025. Both halls are practically in sight of each other in the southern industrial area of Neuenburg, separated by only a few meters of walking distance. Job postings for Neuenburg can be found here. By the end of this year, Galaxus aims to hire the first 50 employees in Neuenburg. By around 2030, this number is expected to gradually increase to up to 1,000. They are looking for logistics specialists, site coordinators, project managers, team leads in logistics, security & loss prevention specialists, facility management leads, HR generalists, and system administrators.
So far, everything has progressed as planned
Michael Stolle thanked both the partner companies, craftsmen, as well as neighbors and authorities: “So far, everything has progressed as planned, and construction is on schedule.” He also emphasized how important sustainability is for Galaxus. The second hall will be equipped with a solar system with a capacity of 10 megawatts. This photovoltaic system will produce about 70 percent of the energy that the city of Neuenburg draws from the public power grid.
Additionally, a gigantic reversible heat pump is planned to heat the hall throughout the year and cool it in summer. This will be powered entirely by green electricity. Speaking of gigantic: The Munich Allianz Arena could fit into the hall twice. A complete lap around the hall measures 1.4 kilometers.
Commencement of operations in autumn
Galaxus will commence operations in the first hall in Neuenburg this autumn. The second hall will be completed by the end of 2025, allowing Galaxus to install the technical facilities in 2026 or 2027, with operations expected to start here by 2027 at the latest.
