May 30, 2025 at 7:30 PMAt the international leading trade fair transport logistic 2025, the Association of German Transport Companies (VDV) e.V., THE FREIGHT RAILWAYS (NEE e.V.), and the Logistics Competence Center (LKZ) Prien, together with the initiative “Every Meter Counts – Alliance for Freight Tracks,” will host a high-profile expert forum on June 4, 2025, at 11:30 AM (Forum Hall A3 | 240).
(Prien/Munich) Under the title “Every Meter Counts – Lack of Parking Spaces on the Rail for Rail Freight Transport,” experts will discuss the pressing question of how urgently needed service infrastructure in rail freight transport can be rebuilt and expanded.
Germany needs a powerful logistics infrastructure – not only for large logistics companies but especially for small and medium-sized enterprises in the supply chains. However, this is precisely where a bottleneck threatens: Over the past 25 years, numerous parking and dispatch tracks, train formation facilities, and workshops for rail freight transport have been drastically reduced and partially decommissioned. The result: bottlenecks in operational processes, limited flexibility, and a jeopardized modal shift from road to rail.
With the general renovation of the high-performance network initiated in 2024 by the federal government and Deutsche Bahn, investments in the rail network will be made comprehensively for the first time – an important step. However, from the industry’s perspective, this is not enough: The alliance “Every Meter Counts,” initiated by the industry, calls for a rethink in infrastructure policy. There is an urgent need for more “parking spaces on the rail” – that is, new parking and dispatch tracks as well as functional workshops – so that rail freight transport remains future-proof and can contribute to the climate transition. It is about nothing less than securing the competitiveness and innovative strength of rail freight transport in Germany, promoting climate-friendly logistics, and ensuring the future viability of entire industrial regions.
Tense Situation Regarding Parking and Dispatch Tracks
At the expert forum, professionals from the economy and rail industry will discuss why rail freight transport urgently needs more infrastructural capacities and what solutions are necessary to alleviate the tense situation, particularly in the area of parking and dispatch tracks.
