Arvato Continues to Focus on Automation
May 16, 2025 at 4:05 PMThe steel industry is a central pillar of the European economy – its products flow into nearly all industrial value chains. Its logistics are complex, system-relevant, and demanding. DB Cargo supports this key industry with tailored, sustainable, and efficient transport solutions.
(Mainz) As part of our specialized business structure, we are today introducing the Steel business unit – a strong partner for the steel-producing and processing industry. As one of four business units in the Executive Board’s rail logistics department under the leadership of Pierre Timmermans, it is active along the entire process chain of the steel industry: from raw material supply to intermediate plant transport to the delivery of finished products.
The Steel sector specializes in transport and logistics solutions for the European steel industry and acts as a long-standing, established rail logistics partner. It is closely integrated into the value chain of the steel industry and participates in the entire process – from raw material supply to intermediate plant transport to the delivery of finished products.
With a comprehensive range of transport solutions, DB Cargo supports steel companies in making their logistics efficient and sustainable. The steel branch team has established itself as a central component of European steel supply and makes a significant contribution to the overall volume of DB Cargo.
80 Percent as Full Train Traffic
About 80 percent of raw material and intermediate plant transports are carried out in efficient full train traffic. Additionally, single wagon traffic plays a central role, especially in the transport of steel intermediate products to processing companies. Thus, the sector utilizes the cost advantages of large transport volumes in system traffic while ensuring flexible connections to even remote locations.
