May 8, 2025 at 1:11 PMThe JadeWeserPort Wilhelmshaven, Germany’s only deep-water container port, has successfully received the fifth PERS environmental management certification. This award underscores the port’s commitment to sustainable development and environmental protection.
(Wilhelmshaven) PERS stands for Port Environmental Review System, a tool for comprehensive analysis and monitoring of environmental management specifically in ports. The certificate was issued by the Brussels-based international organization EcoPorts.
The certification is the result of a comprehensive process in which all environmentally relevant aspects of port operations were analyzed and optimized. The goal was to minimize the ecological impact of port operations while simultaneously increasing efficiency. Measures included optimizing energy consumption, planning and managing existing infrastructure with ecological considerations, and habitat management.
“We are proud to have received this important certification. It confirms our efforts to position JadeWeserPort as a pioneer in sustainable port logistics,” explains Holger Banik, Managing Director of JadeWeserPort Realisierungs GmbH & Co. KG (JWPR) and Niedersachsen Ports GmbH & Co. KG (NPorts). “Sustainability is a central part of our corporate strategy, and we will continue to work towards achieving our environmental goals.”
The environmental management certification is not only an important milestone for JadeWeserPort but also a signal to the port’s customers and partners. It shows that economic success and environmental protection can go hand in hand. The port plans to further expand its environmental initiatives in the coming years to meet the increasing demands for sustainable logistics.
