Mercedes-Benz Trucks Aims for World Record in Reverse Driving
Apr 29, 2025 at 7:28 PMRight after the last curtain at this year’s Easter Festival in Salzburg, the international transport and logistics company Gebrüder Weiss took over the logistical handling of an extensive stage production of the opera “Chowanschtschina”. The destination is the Metropolitan Opera (MET) in New York, which has acquired the complete production and included it in its schedule.
(Salzburg/New York) The order includes the transport of stage sets and props – packed in 18 large sea containers. The execution is handled by the Gebrüder Weiss Air & Sea team in Salzburg together with the “Exhibition and Furniture” department from Vienna, which specializes in international cultural transports. “A project of this magnitude requires precise timing and close coordination among all parties involved,” explains Maria Naglseder, project manager Air & Sea Salzburg at Gebrüder Weiss.
Due to the limited space in the middle of Salzburg’s city center, the team organizes a tightly scheduled shuttle service between the Salzburg container terminal and the festival hall. Naglseder: “Every two hours, we place two empty boxes in front of the festival hall for loading and take two loaded ones back to the train terminal.” The boxes roll by rail to the port of Hamburg. From there, they are shipped to New York and on the last mile to the Lincoln Center in Manhattan, the home of the MET.
On time to the Metropolitan Opera
To ensure a smooth process here as well, the team in Austria works closely with their colleagues from Gebrüder Weiss USA. They handle the import processing and coordination of the final transport stage, ensuring that the cargo reaches the stage of the Metropolitan Opera on time and reliably.
