Only 18 Percent of Logistics Properties Equipped with Solar Systems
Mar 27, 2025 at 7:58 PMConstruction Progress on Schedule: Fiege has celebrated the topping-out ceremony for a new multi-user center in Borna. The property, located in close proximity to the A72 and divided into four sections, will create nearly 40,000 square meters of logistics space for customers from various industries, as well as additional administrative, office, and social areas. With this sustainable new building, the over 150-year-old family business strengthens its presence in the Leipzig/Halle logistics region.
(Greven/Borna) Oliver Urban, the Mayor of Borna, said in his welcoming speech, “The establishment of the new Fiege logistics center in Borna is a significant boost for our city and the entire region. By creating modern jobs and employing sustainable construction methods, Fiege is making a valuable contribution to economic development and the energy transition. We look forward to a successful collaboration and warmly welcome Fiege!”
In the project development, for which Fiege Real Estate is responsible, there is a strong focus on sustainability. The property will feature intelligent building management technology and office extensions with a wooden facade system. Central heating and cooling will be generated by air-water heat pumps, while highly efficient LED lamps will be used for lighting. Fiege will install a PV system on the roof with a capacity of around 4,500 kilowatt-peak, the energy of which will be used, among other things, for the e-charging infrastructure.
Completion in Late Summer
The completion, planned for late summer 2025, is expected to meet the EG-40 standard and the Gold status (version 2023) of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB). Nikolaus von Blomberg, who leads the Fiege Real Estate division together with Kai Alfermann and Thoralf Schuster as Managing Director, stated: “Our goal is to rethink the logistics property of the future. Through the interplay of various measures in the area of energy solutions, we can develop our logistics centers into small, sustainable power plants – not just here in Borna. And thanks to our extensive biodiversity concept, we ensure that we proceed with the utmost consideration for nature.”
