Jan 24, 2025 at 6:32 PMThe Kombiverkehr KG is creating additional capacities in its Europe-wide intermodal network for transport between Germany and Italy. Starting this month, freight forwarders and logistics companies can once again transport their trailers, swap bodies, and containers on a direct connection between the Port of Lübeck and Verona in Northern Italy.
(Frankfurt) The Baltic Rail Gate Terminal at the Skandinavienkai in Lübeck and the Terminal Verona Quadrante Europa will be served. Trains operate every Thursday and Sunday in the north-south direction and every Tuesday and Friday in the south-north direction, with attractive cut-off and pick-up times at the starting and destination points. Kombiverkehr KG also offers additional connections in the so-called gateway traffic via Hamburg on three transport days. From Verona, there are connecting services to southern Italy, and from the Port of Lübeck to and from Sweden and Norway. The transport of waste and hazardous goods of all classes except 1 and 7 is possible.
“Our capacity expansion comes at the right time for transport companies that are facing significant challenges due to the renovation of the Lueg Bridge in Brenner traffic,” says Arbi Tonians, Head of Southern Europe Sales at Kombiverkehr KG. From January 1, 2025, road traffic over the 1.8-kilometer-long Lueg Bridge will often only be able to roll in one lane for safety reasons. In March, the general renovation of the more than 50-year-old structure near Gries am Brenner will begin, which is expected to last until the end of 2030.
Multiple Connections to and from Verona
“Our rail services over the Brenner can provide relief for freight forwarding companies. We offer daily departures in traffic with Verona, and from some terminal locations, even multiple train departures per day. Target terminals in Germany, in addition to Lübeck, include Munich, Cologne, Ludwigshafen, Hanover, Hamburg, Leipzig, Nuremberg, and Rostock,” says Tonians.
