Nov 19, 2024 at 7:50 PMFor customers, it is not just a clever move in the literal sense: Three times a week, the ‘SchachZUG’, as HGK Intermodal GmbH (HGK I) has named its new train product, connects the HGK terminal Duisburg Gateway West with five terminals in the port of Rotterdam. The stated goal: to shift more container traffic from road to rail.
(Köln/Duisburg/Rotterdam) The issue is well known: Container transport from the Rhineland to the seaports by road is time-consuming and generates climate-damaging CO2 emissions. Therefore, HGK Intermodal GmbH has launched the ‘SchachZUG’ to offer an environmentally friendly alternative by rail.
The advantages for customers are clear:
- Reliable and punctual transport by rail
- No traffic jams on congested highways
- Sustainable and environmentally friendly logistics
- Reduction of toll costs
- Possibility of interim storage at the HGK terminal in the hinterland of Rotterdam
- Seamless supply chain from a single source
Offer saves time and costs
“With our SchachZUG, we are responding to customer demands. Instead of causing unnecessary CO2 emissions on the road, the connection contributes to the positive climate balance of our clients,” explain Kerstin Lederer (Head of Sales) and Rainer Görtler, Managing Director of HGK Intermodal GmbH. They further state: “Moreover, the offer also saves time and costs. The initial experiences reinforce our belief that ‘Schach-ZUG’ will establish itself in the market.”
