Oct 8, 2024 at 8:18 PMA collaboration in the field of truck parking sharing has been established between the software service provider MANSIO and the insurer KRAVAG. The latter operates KRAVAG Truck Parking, through which secure truck parking spaces can be booked across Germany. In the future, this service will also be available for MANSIO’s meeting traffic. The pilot phase starts on November 1, 2024. Regular operations are expected to commence in the first quarter of 2025.
(Aachen/Wiesbaden) With the KRAVAG Truck Parking solution, transport companies provide high-quality parking spaces to other carriers at over 90 locations. As part of a pilot project, MANSIO can now handle meeting traffic on a portion of these areas. “About half of the providers represented with us have spontaneously agreed that trailers can be exchanged in their parking lots,” says Thorsten Gutmann, responsible for business development at KRAVAG Truck Parking.
The concept allows participants in MANSIO’s meeting traffic to book two adjacent parking spaces for 30 to 60 minutes at a fixed unit price. This gives drivers enough time to swap their trailers while also taking a break. Planners and drivers take no risks in the planning process. Reservations made can be canceled free of charge up to five minutes before the start of the slot.
Regarding the integration, MANSIO’s managing director Maik Schürmeyer reports: “After the pilot phase, booking will be possible directly in the MANSIO system via a technical interface.” Initial test runs have shown that these parking spaces rank highly. The algorithm is programmed to minimize empty and detour kilometers. The KRAVAG solution’s freight areas meet these criteria precisely, are conveniently located, and often have direct access to highways.
From Schürmeyer and Gutmann’s perspective, the companies’ concepts complement each other excellently, as both actors think in terms of logistics networks and act according to the same philosophy. At MANSIO, transporters work hand in hand and share the distances in long-distance transport. At KRAVAG Truck Parking, transporters provide parking spaces to other companies in the industry. “The collaboration is designed so that growth is possible in both directions,” emphasizes Schürmeyer.
The private providers of the parking spaces form a “Trusted Community.” Gutmann outlines the criteria: “We only work with companies that are registered with us and have their headquarters in Germany. The providers score points, among other things, with the on-site facilities. Many parking lots have additional infrastructure such as washing or shower facilities that can be used.”
With the quality, safety, and reliable reservation of parking spaces, trust in the meeting traffic increases. “That’s why we focus on these characteristics when searching for partners, which KRAVAG Truck Parking fully meets,” concludes MANSIO.
Reducing Truck Parking Shortage
Both companies contribute to reducing the truck parking shortage, which is one of the major operational challenges for planners and truckers. In Germany, there is a shortage of up to 40,000 truck parking spaces. This leads to drivers in long-distance transport spending up to 60 minutes daily searching for parking.
