Sep 12, 2024 at 5:19 AMthyssenkrupp Materials Trading GmbH (TKMT) and HGK Intermodal GmbH have prematurely extended their cooperation in the transport of foundry coke. With the signing of the contract, both partners emphasize their joint long-term commitment to sustainable transport.
(Köln/Duisburg) For decades, HGK Intermodal has been transporting foundry coke from the Polish city of Walbrzych to TKMT’s European customers. On September 10, 2024, Wolfgang Schnittker, CEO of thyssenkrupp Materials Trading, Markus Krämer, CEO of HGK Logistics and Intermodal GmbH, and Tim Hurka, Managing Director of HGK Intermodal, signed the contract for the continuation of their cooperation.
To transport foundry coke, HGK Intermodal has developed a specialized container, the so-called black-boxX. This box reduces unnecessary handling and prevents contamination that can occur with bulk freight wagons. As a result, TKMT was able to shift all transports from Walbrzych to rail. “Efficient and reliable logistics is a key competitive factor. Therefore, we are pleased to have HGK Intermodal as a trimodal player by our side,” explains Wolfgang Schnittker. “Even more crucial is that HGK Intermodal is working with us on logistics solutions that are more sustainable and climate-friendly. We are excited to extend our successful collaboration.”
Cooperation in Logistics is Key to Success
Transport by rail saves 87 percent of CO2 compared to conventional truck transport. In 2023 alone, 7,832 tons of CO2 were reduced through rail transports with black-boxX. “Cooperation in logistics is the key to success. We appreciate the constructive exchange with TKMT,” emphasizes Markus Krämer. “At that time, TKMT faced the challenge that transport by rail was not possible without compromising product quality. This motivated us to develop the black-boxX for TKMT and continues to provide a sustainable solution today.” Tim Hurka has been appointed as the Managing Director of HGK Intermodal GmbH effective June 1, 2024. The 42-year-old is responsible, together with Rainer Görtler (49), Head of Intermodal, for the terminal activities of the HGK Group in Duisburg and Krefeld.
