Aug 22, 2024 at 5:44 PMVolvo Trucks and the globally operating logistics company DSV have signed a cooperation agreement for 300 heavy electric trucks. This represents one of the largest orders for electric trucks from Volvo to date. With this order, DSV will have one of the largest corporate fleets of heavy electric trucks in Europe.
(Ismaning) DSV, a global leader in transport and logistics, is rapidly moving towards a more sustainable future on roads and highways. Every day, more than 20,000 trucks transport goods for the company’s customers around the world, and an increasing number will be powered electrically or with renewable fuels in the coming years.
Now, DSV and its partners have agreed with Volvo Trucks to plan the deployment of 300 zero-emission electric trucks across all DSV operations in Europe. This is part of the company’s plan to have 2,000 electric trucks in its fleet by 2030. With this order, DSV will have one of the largest corporate fleets of heavy electric trucks in Europe.
Agreement Includes 500 Trucks
The agreement also includes 500 trucks from Volvo with particularly fuel-efficient diesel and gas engines. All trucks are to be delivered between 2024 and 2026. “I am very proud to deepen the partnership with DSV. Collaboration and a strong commitment to truly make a difference are essential to implement sustainable transport and achieve significant CO2 reductions. This order is a testament to the trust in our company and shows that zero-emission transport is a viable solution here and now,” says Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks.
Expanding Emission Reductions in the Transport Sector
“We are pleased that we can expand our partnership with Volvo as part of our joint efforts to reduce emissions in the transport sector. As a global leader in logistics, we must strive to stay at the forefront of the green transition, and this agreement is a fantastic example of how new technologies can be brought to market on a large scale to make them more accessible for our customers. The agreement with Volvo is an important step towards a more sustainable future in truck transport,” says Søren Schmidt, CEO of DSV Road.
Among the new trucks being delivered to DSV is the new Volvo FH Aero Electric, which is even more energy-efficient due to its improved aerodynamics. DSV is the largest freight carrier of the Volvo Group and already has electric trucks from Volvo in its fleet. These trucks are deployed in Sweden and Denmark. In both countries, DSV has established a charging infrastructure at its distribution centers powered by electricity from solar panels.
Initiative “Science-based targets”
Both DSV and the Volvo Group are committed to the “Science-based targets” initiative, which promotes ambitious climate protection measures in the private sector in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement.
