Jul 9, 2024 at 5:53 PMWith the founding of DACHSER Austria 20 years ago, DACHSER expanded its international network and set a new milestone for successful and sustainable growth. The Austrian subsidiary now has a strong branch network with its nine locations, employs nearly 700 staff, and generates an annual revenue of 202 million euros. Located in Austria, an important logistical hub in Europe, DACHSER Austria plays a crucial role in the network of the global logistics service provider.
(Kempten/Hörsching) Logistics in the heart of Europe: 20 years ago, DACHSER started in Austria with its own national organization. Important for success, alongside uniform performance standards and quality criteria, is primarily the commitment of the employees of the family business. In Austria, DACHSER offers its customers transport logistics, warehousing, and customer-specific services within the two business fields of “European Logistics” and “Air & Sea Logistics” and is connected to the global DACHSER network with 382 locations in 43 countries.
On the occasion of its 20th anniversary, DACHSER Austria held a press event at the Himberg location in mid-June to celebrate this milestone. “We are proud of our history and the progress we have made in the last two decades,” said Günter Hirschbeck, Managing Director European Logistics Austria. “Our commitment to quality, innovation, and sustainability will continue to drive our success in the future. The needs of our customers have evolved. Speed, accuracy, flexibility, and reliability are crucial competitive factors for them. DACHSER stands for state-of-the-art, efficient, and IT-driven logistics solutions. This is made possible by the close integration of our global transport and warehouse networks, long-term partnerships, and consistent digital networking worldwide.” Peter Deutschbauer, who has been Managing Director Air & Sea Logistics Eastern Europe and Austria since 2023, adds: “As an expert in global air and sea freight logistics, we stand for global, integrated, and efficient supply chain solutions worldwide.”
Success Story of DACHSER Austria
Since all DACHSER locations operate under the same rules and processes, Austrian customers also benefit from this. “One advantage is our decentralized branches, which are located in close proximity to our customers. This allows for quick response times, and our personal customer service teams act as the first point of contact on-site,” says Hirschbeck.
“We are proud of our history and the progress we have made in the last two decades,” says Günter Hirschbeck, Managing Director European Logistics Austria.
The locations are continuously being expanded and modernized. Just last year, DACHSER Austria began the expansion and development of the Himberg location near Vienna. At the same time, expansion work at the logistics center Linz in Hörsching started again this spring. “With this, we have once again underscored the importance of DACHSER in Austria as a logistics hub in Europe,” explains Hirschbeck, reflecting on the milestones.
Logistics is People Business
“Logistics is People Business” – this guiding principle makes it clear that the employees at DACHSER are the key factor for the company’s success. Therefore, the search for skilled professionals is becoming increasingly important. “At DACHSER Austria, high-quality vocational training has traditionally held great significance,” says Günter Hirschbeck. Currently, around 80 young logistics professionals are being trained. During the event, Anja Schlesinger, head of training at the logistics center in Vienna, presented the training concept with its many opportunities and collaborations.
Long-term Climate Protection Strategy
DACHSER pursues a long-term climate protection strategy and drives the transition to more sustainable logistics forward with a focus on efficiency, innovation, and inclusive responsibility together with customers and partners.
Since 2018, the company has been using battery-electric vehicles as part of the sustainable city delivery concept “DACHSER Emission-Free Delivery.” Tailored to local requirements, this concept employs battery-electric vans and trucks as well as electrically assisted cargo bikes. The latter are specifically designed for piece goods and palletized goods. With these zero-emission vehicles, all shipments are delivered locally emission-free in a defined area of the city center.
The concept is now being implemented in the Road Logistics business field in regular operation – across 13 cities in Europe, explained Manuel Schmelz, Business Development Manager Solutions Austria, at the press event in Himberg. DACHSER Emission-Free Delivery is also set to launch in the capital.
To illustrate this, two FUSO E-Canters and one QUANTRON E-truck were presented at the 20th anniversary event, which will operate emission-free in the city center of Vienna in the future. Additionally, an electrically assisted cargo bike was shown, which is currently in use in various European cities.
DACHSER Austria signed the letter of intent for the “Zero Emission Transport” project in Vienna at the beginning of June. The pilot project is an initiative of the Chamber of Commerce of the city and includes the participation of over 30 companies from various industries. DACHSER Austria is expected to start deliveries with E-trucks in the coming weeks.

Certification as “Leading Company Austria”
DACHSER Austria was certified as a “Leading Company Austria” during the event. Monica Rintersbacher M.A. (Magistra), Managing Director Leading Companies Austria, presented the certificate to Günter Hirschbeck and Peter Deutschbauer during the anniversary celebrations.
“DACHSER is not only one of the most successful logistics providers, but also sets an example when it comes to employees and actively drives innovations and sustainability in the company. Leading Companies Austria congratulates you on your 20th anniversary and on your certification as a leading company,” said Rintersbacher M.A.
