The Swiss Post May Slow Down Delivery
Jun 16, 2024 at 4:19 PMThe logistics service provider Kühne+Nagel has opened a new contract logistics location in Rhineland-Palatinate. With around 55,000 square meters of logistics space, the company ensures the global spare parts supply for the Wacker Neuson Group from Mülheim-Kärlich. The leading manufacturer of construction equipment and compact machines has relied on Kühne+Nagel’s solutions for its spare parts logistics for nine years.
(Hamburg/Mülheim-Kärlich) The new distribution center will create 120 jobs. Employees will be supported in their work by “goods-to-person” assistants: A fleet of over 30 robots handles the storage and retrieval as well as the transport of containers, bringing items directly from the shelves to the employees at the picking stations. The autonomous mobile robots are equipped with sensors, cameras, and algorithms that enable them to work in three dimensions and navigate independently in dynamic environments by recognizing obstacles and adjusting their routes accordingly.
More than 100,000 different spare part components for construction equipment and compact machines are maintained and shipped in this way. The equipment and processes at the location allow for flexible expansion of activities to tap into further volume potentials in spare parts distribution in the coming years.
“Kühne+Nagel is driving digital transformation in logistics forward with the use of modern technologies,” says Gianfranco Sgro, Executive Vice President Contract Logistics and Integrated Logistics at Kühne+Nagel International AG. “We are pleased to continue our long-standing partnership with the Wacker Neuson Group. We have created a contract logistics location here that is unique in its automation for Germany.”
Spare Parts Business Positioned for the Future
Andrew Voigt, Managing Director of Wacker Neuson Aftermarket & Services GmbH, adds: “With our state-of-the-art distribution warehouse and operations by our trusted partner Kühne+Nagel, we are positioning our spare parts and service business for the future. We are partners alongside our customers throughout the entire lifecycle of the machines and create sustainable relationships – beyond the sale of the machines and construction equipment.”
