Jun 8, 2024 at 7:13 PMThe statistical report on Combined Transport (KV) “Figures and Facts 2023” by the Study Society for Combined Transport (SGKV) is now online and freely accessible. Additionally, the interactive dashboard based on the report has been updated with figures on KV. The KV was able to increase its share of total freight transport in terms of transport performance from 8.3% to 8.4%.
(Berlin) The Study Society for Combined Transport (SGKV e.V.) has updated the statistical dashboard for Combined Transport (KV) as an add-on to its annual statistical report “Figures and Facts” on its website. At sgkv.de/der-kombinierte-verkehr/zahlen-zum-kv/, one can view the key figures for KV over the last five years at a glance. The data is based on evaluations in the SGKV statistical report, which relies on official statistical data. The annually produced statistical report on Combined Transport is now publicly available in its new edition “Figures and Facts 2023”.
The report contains evaluations based on official statistics for the reporting year 2022. It examines both the rail and waterway combined transport as well as total freight transport in Germany. Furthermore, the report provides an overview of forecasts regarding volume and performance development for total freight transport as well as for rail-based KV. In addition to the official statistics, the report includes two excursions: on the one hand, a graphical breakdown of construction cost subsidies to private companies for investments to promote transshipment facilities of Combined Transport from 1998 to 2022 (actual) and until 2024 (planned). The federal budget plans since 1998 were taken into account. On the other hand, the shares of greenhouse gas emissions in the transport sector in Germany are illustrated. Specifically, the shares of CO2-e emissions by mode of transport and transport carrier for 2020 are derived from current calculations by the UBA and DLR.
Three interesting facts about freight transport and Combined Transport (KV) in Germany in advance:
- After the high growth figures in 2021 in transport volumes and performance, almost all transport sectors of freight transport recorded losses again in 2022.
- In the comparison of transport carriers, the KV in Germany was able to achieve increases in transport performance (+1.6%) in 2022 alongside the transport segment “Crude Oil Pipelines (BAFA)”. However, the transport volume in KV in Germany slightly decreased by -0.4% compared to the previous year. Nevertheless, the KV was able to increase its share of total freight transport in terms of transport performance from 8.3% to 8.4% and maintain its share in terms of transport volume at 2.7% in 2022.
- According to the long-term forecast, KV continues to be regarded as a growth driver in rail freight transport, with a projected enormous increase of +73% by 2051. KV is forecasted to have the second-highest growth rate of all freight transport carriers in Germany by 2025, with +5.3% in transport volume and +6.1% in transport performance.
