Hans-Peter Hadorn Appointed to the Board of Directors of Birsterminal AG

Hans-Peter Hadorn has been elected as a new member of the Board of Directors of Birsterminal AG, a port logistics and multimodal freight transport company based in the Swiss Rhine ports. Hadorn is returning to the Rhine port after his retirement, where he successfully served as director for over 15 years.

(Birsfelden) Hans-Peter Hadorn, the long-time director of the Swiss Rhine ports, is returning to the port as a member of the Board of Directors of Birsterminal AG. Thanks to his extensive expertise and experience, Hadorn will sustainably support the further expansion of services in port logistics at the trimodal terminal in Birsfelden, along with additional shipping and rail connections to and from the seaports of Antwerp and Rotterdam, as well as in the national sector.

Significantly Involved in the Establishment of the Swiss Rhine Ports

Hadorn stepped down from his position as director at the end of 2020 after around 15 years and is now returning to a part of his former workplace. He was significantly involved in the merger of the former Rhine Shipping Directorate Basel and the Rhine ports of Baselland. After a successful referendum in the canton of Basel-Landschaft, he took over the role of director of the newly established Swiss Rhine ports on January 1, 2008. This gave Rhine and inland shipping in Switzerland significantly more weight outside the Basel region.

After a transformation period involving the integration of corporate cultures and the establishment of independence, the Swiss Rhine ports developed under his leadership into a successful transport hub of national significance. In 2015, the Swiss Rhine ports and thus Rhine shipping achieved equal footing with the rail transport sector for the first time with the complete revision of the Freight Transport Act, concerning the financing of infrastructure for combined transport.

Before his nomination as port director, Hadorn held the position of Head of Strategic Development at SBB Cargo. Since July 2022, he has also been a member of the board of Collegium Musicum Basel.
