Gruber Logistics Opens Hub in Quadrante Europa in Verona
May 2, 2024 at 6:16 PMThe Travemünde intermodal terminal Baltic Rail Gate (BRG) has gained new, attractive routes to Western Europe. Two block trains now connect the terminals of the Lübeck Port Company (LHG) with Herne and Bettemburg in Luxembourg. This means BRG now offers 53 departures per week – more than ever before.
(Lübeck/Travemünde) BRG Managing Director Antje Falk welcomes the additional services: “A positive sign from our customers. This gives us momentum and also underscores the quality with which we work.” Three times a week in each direction, the block train for trailers and containers travels towards Bettemburg (Luxembourg). The traction is provided by the Luxembourg state-owned company CFL. In the same frequency, a block train serves the destination Herne, with traction provided by the Potsdam Railway Company (EGP). Both trains are loaded by the Austrian freight forwarder LKW Walter.
Through the BRG hub, the trains connect important industrial centers in Western Europe with the Nordic countries and the Baltic states. At the Travemünde Scandinavia quay – where the terminal is located – there are several daily sea connections to ports in Sweden and Finland, as well as daily connections to Latvia. In the opposite direction, cargo is headed to the Ruhr area and to Benelux, France, and Spain. The new connections complement the West Corridor of the Baltic Rail Gate network offering. The focus of departures is on Duisburg with eleven and Ludwigshafen with six weekly connections. Encouragingly, there is also movement on the Italy axis. The frequency between the Italian Segrate (in the Milan area) and Travemünde has increased from four to six departures per week in each direction since the beginning of the year.
Expansion of the terminal is progressing well
The expansion of the intermodal terminal is progressing well. Falk is confident that all work will be completed by the height of summer this year. Then the company will be able to handle up to 240,000 trailers and containers per year on six tracks, each 720 meters long. “This helps us a lot. In recent years, we have often worked at capacity limits. In the future, we will have significantly more room to develop new traffic with our partners and thus continue our growth path.”
