Smart Container Loop and expert extend collaboration
Apr 30, 2024 at 3:10 PMHapag-Lloyd announces the launch of ‘Live Position’, its first product for tracking standard containers. Customers can now gain full transparency about the location of their shipments – from the start of transport to arrival at the destination. Hapag-Lloyd is the first container shipping company to introduce a fleet-wide product for tracking standard containers.
(Hamburg) This demonstrates Hapag-Lloyd’s commitment to deploying groundbreaking IoT technology (Internet of Things) in logistics on a large scale. More than two-thirds of the standard container fleet has already been equipped with tracking devices. Installations will continue worldwide to capture the remaining containers over the summer.
“The ‘Live Position’ product will further enhance our service quality and simplify business transactions with us,” says Dr. Maximilian Rothkopf, COO of Hapag-Lloyd. “It closes the ‘blind spots’ of global logistics, enables real-time decision-making and risk mitigation for our customers, while allowing for more efficient management of our container fleet.”
Henrik Schilling, Head of Global Commercial Development, adds: “Participants in our successful pilot phase have already recognized that we go the extra mile to alleviate one of their biggest concerns. Now we want to take all our customers on this journey and further develop the product. We are currently working on feeding the tracking data via API into the customers’ operational systems. A further milestone in the product’s development will be the prediction of the estimated time of arrival (ETA).”
User-Friendly Search Function
Key features of the first basic product ‘Live Position’ include a user-friendly interface and an easy-to-use search function for containers, booking numbers, or batches. The tool provides customers with a quick overview of the current location of their shipment and allows them to make necessary adjustments in real-time.
