Digital Release Process in German Seaports Advances
Apr 25, 2024 at 6:57 PMThe fashion brand Drykorn operates two high-traffic shops in Berlin and regularly supplies them with new merchandise. One side effect of the deliveries was that many shipping packages were left over, and their storage and disposal posed a challenge for the staff on-site. The label is now relying on reusable shipping boxes from the startup hey circle.
(Munich/Berlin) The amount of waste was significant. Many know Drykorn as a company that strives to keep its footprint as small as possible. This prompted the search for environmentally friendly alternatives for transport packaging, with a focus on waste-free shipping.
Special requirements in intralogistics had an impact:
- The transport should be flexible with the usual parcel service providers, so lightweight and easily storable packaging was in demand.
- Larger quantities of clothing cannot only be transported in bags alone, so not only reusable shipping bags but also boxes were sought as an alternative to large cartons.
- To protect the goods, the boxes should be sealable and dirt-repellent.
Easy to handle and often reusable
Today, around 230 reusable shipping boxes and bags from hey circle are in use for shipping goods to the two Drykorn stores in Berlin and the branch in Lahr, as well as to logistics and other partners. Shipping is done via UPS. For the return shipment, the empty packaging is folded and bundled back, so they are ready for the next use. Some individual boxes have already been sent on their journey around 40 times. The hey circle shipping packages are expected to replace around 50 single-use cartons during their lifecycle – but can, of course, be used beyond that.
Switching to a reusable shipping solution brings quickly measurable results
“The transparent CO2 balance was the deciding factor for us to choose hey circle as a provider,” explains the sustainability team at Drykorn. The hey circle XL boxes alone have already saved around 1.6 tons of waste and 1.75 tons of CO2 emissions.
“The handling of the hey circle boxes works so smoothly that there’s really nothing more to say. Especially the boxes with self-erecting sides are popular with our packers. The packaging with a lot of space is used most frequently, so we can also imagine using an even larger box,” describes the CSR team the practical use.
Customer from the very beginning
“Drykorn was a customer from the very beginning and trusted us early on. We are in constant exchange and are grateful for the feedback that we were able to incorporate early in our product development. We are very pleased to support Drykorn in achieving their sustainability goals,” says Doris Diebold, founder of hey circle.
