Port of Rotterdam in Basel: “Dependent on Green Growth”
Apr 2, 2024 at 7:13 PMThe action alliance “Port Bridge Hamburg-Odessa”, consisting of several Hamburg aid organizations, companies, and associations, sent urgently needed aid supplies on their way to Odessa on Thursday. The recipient is a children’s hospital in the Odessa region.
(Hamburg) The Port of Hamburg and the Port of Odessa in Ukraine share a long partnership – not least due to the Container Terminal Odessa (CTO), which Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) has been operating at the Black Sea for over 20 years. To support the war-affected population in Odessa and the region, several partners have joined forces in the alliance “Port Bridge Hamburg-Odessa”. Together, the initiators DER HAFEN HILFT!, the Ukrainian Aid Staff, Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA), the Humanitarian Logistics Organization (HLO), and Hafen Hamburg Marketing e.V. have called for a donation campaign within their networks.
With these funds, urgently needed aid supplies requested by a children’s hospital in the Odessa region were procured: in addition to medical consumables and food, also medical technology. The transport of the materials from the Hamburg Container Terminal Altenwerder to the Ukrainian port city is organized by HHLA with the help of its European logistics network, including its rail subsidiary Metrans.
Contribution to Alleviating the Emergency Situation
“The past weeks have once again shown us how much the civilian population in Odessa suffers from the events of war. We are therefore pleased to be able to contribute to alleviating the emergency situation. At the same time, we are impressed by the willingness to donate and the capabilities of the network of Hamburg logistics companies. We sincerely thank all the involved partners on behalf of everyone,” summarizes Axel Mattern, Board Member of Hafen Hamburg Marketing.
“Even more than two years after the start of the war, we are daily shaken by images of violence and destruction from Ukraine. HHLA feels particularly connected to Ukraine through its terminal in Odessa. A big thank you goes to all those involved and the many dedicated employees who made this further aid shipment with urgently needed goods possible,” says Angela Titzrath, CEO of HHLA. Upon arrival in the port city at the Black Sea, the humanitarian coordination staff of the Odessa Military Administration will ensure the distribution of the goods.
