Round Table in Switzerland on the Situation in Rail Freight Transport
Feb 25, 2024 at 11:22 AMGermany’s first fully automated drone delivery service by the Koerschulte Group in Lüdenscheid has launched. HHLA Sky, a subsidiary of Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA), supports the flight operations of the delivery drones with its own developed integrated drone control center.
(Lüdenscheid/Hamburg) Two years of development work have culminated in the launch of the first commercial delivery drone airline for B2B courier deliveries with automated flying drones. The Federal Aviation Office had previously granted the Koerschulte Group the first nationwide approval for scheduled flights with delivery drones. Thus, Germany sees the launch of the first delivery drone airline that is allowed to fly autonomously in public airspace (SAIL-III operating license).
The drone flights are monitored by HHLA Sky’s Integrated Control Center, a highly automated process management and control software that ensures the entire process of drone operations is safe and makes the service easily scalable (Drones as a Service).
The first customer is the sensor and process control technology manufacturer Hotset in Lüdenscheid. Five more flight routes will follow in the coming months. Up to 80 packages a day are to be flown by the automated drones to customers within Lüdenscheid.
