Nov 7, 2023 at 7:40 PMThe NOSTA Group has completely replaced its in-house fleet. A total of 34 new Actros 5L vehicles from Mercedes-Benz are now on the roads across Europe for the full-service logistics provider. For the corporate group, modernizing the fleet is another step towards greater efficiency and increased road safety.
(Osnabrück) Stefan Hoge, fleet manager at NOSTA, is pleased with the completion of the lengthy replacement process: “Thanks to early ordering, the first vehicles were already delivered to us in the summer of 2023. And the wait has definitely been worth it.” Now all 34 tractors have arrived, and the final training session for the driving personnel on the modern trucks has also taken place.
Previously, tractors from the Sindelfingen global corporation were part of the fleet, which serves over 40 NOSTA-owned locations and numerous customers in Germany and Europe. Now, the complete transition to the diesel series Actros 5L has taken place. “The machines are characterized by modern fuel-saving technology and safety features that represent real added value for us,” explains Stefan Hoge regarding the decision.
“Mirror Cams” Are Among the Safety Features
Among the safety features are the so-called “Mirror Cams,” which replace the conventional side mirrors. This solution displays what is happening beside and behind the truck on screens inside the vehicle for the driving personnel. “This minimizes the dangerous blind spot and provides better visibility through the side windows,” explains Hoge about this gain in road safety. Interestingly, the aerodynamically positioned cameras reduce wind susceptibility compared to conventional exterior mirrors and, according to the manufacturer, also lead to fuel savings.
In terms of efficiency, the intelligent cruise control of the new tractors is particularly decisive. “The system relies on 3D maps and automatically recognizes the correct acceleration and shifting points. This can save up to five percent in fuel,” reports Hoge. This and other features of the tractors have advantages for all parties involved: “The more efficient our transports are, the better it is for our customers,” sums up the fleet manager.
The Comfort of the Vehicles Has Convinced the Driving Personnel
And how do the drivers find their new work tools? “Some were initially skeptical about the Mirror Cams. That has completely changed now,” says Stefan Hoge with satisfaction. Above all, the comfort of the vehicles, alongside the safety benefits, has convinced many employees: The quiet driver’s cabin, comfortable seats, and smooth shifting are frequently praised by the driving personnel.
