The shipping of solar modules for balcony power plants from GreenAkku to the end customer is a major challenge for providers. Due to their large dimensions, solar modules are very bulky and are therefore not delivered via standard parcel shipping, but by freight forwarding. During the shipping process, the modules are loaded and stored multiple times.
(Nettetal) Solar modules for balcony power plants are very susceptible to transport damage and must be packaged with a lot of packaging material to ensure they arrive properly at the customer. GreenAkku now offers a sustainable transport solution that addresses this issue.
GreenAkku, an online shop for solar systems and accessories, has delivered around half a million PV systems to private or commercial customers over the past 13 years. Shipping one to two modules for balcony power plants to the end customer poses a significant challenge. Additionally, huge amounts of packaging waste are generated, which the recipient has to dispose of when using freight shipping. GreenAkku has now developed a packaging-free direct delivery to the customer, where the modules are handed over personally without packaging at an agreed time. Prior to this, a phone appointment is arranged between the shipping service provider and the customer, where a date with a clearly defined time window of 3 hours is set. During the handover, the customer and driver check whether the solar modules are free of defects – transport damages are usually recognized immediately.
Enormous savings in packaging waste
Test deliveries have shown that there is an enormous reduction in packaging waste. Additionally, the route planning not only saves CO2, but also reduces the return rate to nearly zero. It has been shown that the new direct shipping is very secure in terms of avoiding transport damage, as multiple handling in the regional hubs of the freight forwarders is eliminated. Furthermore, by inspecting the modules beforehand, production defects are identified and sorted out in advance, resulting in no complaints or returns during the test study. Additionally, there was a positive side effect on the satisfaction of the test buyers, with 91 percent of respondents rating it very positively to be able to inspect the goods upon delivery.
