Camion Transport takes over the handling specialist Hänger
Sep 5, 2023 at 3:41 PMThe Hamburg-based intralogistics pioneer Jungheinrich has fully acquired the Munich robotics specialist Magazino. In addition to its existing stake of 21.7 percent, which was increased in 2022, Jungheinrich is acquiring all shares from the founders and previous co-shareholders, including Cellcom, Fiege Logistik, and Körber. The transaction became effective immediately upon signing this week. The purchase price has been kept confidential.
(Munich/Hamburg) Magazino will continue to grow as an independent company within Jungheinrich, primarily leveraging the global sales and service network of the group. The company will continue to be led by its two co-founders, Frederik Brantner and Lukas Zanger, along with Dr. Moritz Tenorth.
For Jungheinrich, the complete acquisition of Magazino is another strategically important step in strengthening its automation expertise. Founded in 2014, Magazino employs around 130 people and has one of the largest development teams in Europe in mobile robotics. The company offers a powerful technology platform that enables the operation of logistics robots even in a mixed human-machine environment. This allows robots to intelligently navigate warehouses and selectively pick up and transport required objects. The system and robots from Magazino are already in use in the warehouses of various industrial customers, online retailers, and logistics service providers. The control software for robots in complex logistics environments has also already been integrated into Jungheinrich’s EAEa, a fully automated low-lift vehicle that was presented for the first time at this year’s intralogistics trade fair LogiMAT.
For Jungheinrich, this merger is an ideal complement to the expansion of its business with automated and autonomous vehicles. In the future, Magazino’s software and development expertise will be even more strongly incorporated into Jungheinrich’s product development. Magazino will gain access to Jungheinrich’s international sales and service network and will become part of a broadly positioned portfolio of products and solutions in intralogistics. The Magazino brand will remain, and the company will continue to work with external integration partners and customers.
“We have been working closely with Magazino for several years, know each other well, and communicate on equal terms. The chemistry is just right. Now we are taking the next logical step in our collaboration and fully acquiring Magazino,” said Dr. Lars Brzoska, Chairman of the Board of Jungheinrich. “Magazino is a successful company with very good management and top experts in the market. It has outstanding software expertise and has developed solutions that have the potential to sustainably shape the future of intralogistics. In the group, we will leverage these competencies to jointly advance the development of innovative automation and robotics solutions.”
Demand for warehouse automation is steadily increasing
Frederik Brantner, CEO and Co-Founder of Magazino: “The demand for warehouse automation is steadily increasing. Through the control of robots in this complex environment, we have developed a unique competence that we want to further expand. We thank our previous investors for their trust and the long-standing, successful collaboration. They have strategically and financially supported us so far and have significantly contributed to the further development of our business. Together with them, we have laid the foundation for the next chapter in Magazino’s success story. Together with Jungheinrich, we will continue to expand our technological leadership in intralogistics and also expand internationally.”
