To optimize logistics processes and increase the energy efficiency of the new warehouse location, the Swiss intralogistics expert Swisslog is implementing, in addition to the installation of an automatic high-bay warehouse, an automatic medium parts warehouse, and an AutoStore system, the MFR module of the SynQ software. The contract amounts to 40 million Swiss francs.
(Buchs/Villmergen) Major contract for Swisslog: The Swiss Post relies once again on the expertise of the Swiss intralogistics expert after a first joint automation project in Villmergen AG. Swisslog is responsible for the complete realization of the intralogistics for the construction of its logistics center in Villmergen (LZV) for the Swiss Post. As part of this, Swisslog will install a new automatic high-bay warehouse, an automatic medium parts warehouse, and an automated small parts warehouse including material flow control. The new logistics center will triple the storage capacity for hospital logistics goods, hazardous materials, or, for example, goods from online commerce. With the new construction, the storage area will be expanded from 20,000 to 57,000 square meters. The groundbreaking for the major project took place on June 22, 2022. The commissioning of the logistics center is planned for 2025.
The Swiss Post and Swisslog have a long-standing partnership. Swisslog has been successfully collaborating with the Post since the 1990s. In 2016, the first step towards automation was implemented at the Villmergen site with the installation of an AutoStore system. “We are very pleased that the Swiss Post is once again placing its trust in us,” says Heinrich Lüthi, Managing Director of Swisslog Switzerland, “and we are proud to be able to implement this flagship project for the region together.”
Automatic High-Bay Warehouse with 23,000 Pallet Spaces
“Swisslog has convinced us with their logistical and technical solutions to create the warehouse of the future together,” says Roland Heizmann, Head of Goods Logistics at the Swiss Post. “Successful projects in the past have also established a robust trust relationship.” The expansion now being undertaken in Villmergen includes a high-bay warehouse with 23,000 pallet spaces, a medium parts warehouse with 20,000 shelves, and an AutoStore system with a capacity of 125,000 containers for small parts. For software control, the Swiss Post is also relying on Swisslog’s SynQ software. SynQ stands for synchronized intelligence and is a fully integrated and seamless material flow automation solution aimed at simplifying and accelerating the integration of new technologies.
