M3E Shows Advantages of Combined Funding Programs for E-Mobility
Jun 16, 2023 at 3:12 PMSince April 2023, JadeWeserPort in Wilhelmshaven has been part of the regular rotation in the schedule of THE Alliance partners (Hapag-Lloyd, Ocean Network Express, Yang Ming, and Hyundai Merchant Marine) as part of the FE2 service. Recently, for the first time, Hapag-Lloyd’s own container ship, the nearly 20,000 TEU “Al Zubara,” has called at the Container Terminal Wilhelmshaven (CTW) in the FE2 service.
Joerg Sonne, Head of Region North Europe at Hapag-Lloyd, sees the port primarily as an important second pillar for Hapag-Lloyd and its customers. “Wilhelmshaven has proven its value, especially during the port congestion of the past two years. We see the advantage of offering our customers two gateways to Germany to deliver their cargo more flexibly and reliably. At the same time, JadeWeserPort has developed into a cost-effective alternative.”
Investment in Infrastructure Expansion
Currently, investments are being made in the infrastructure of the container terminal: The existing eight container bridges are being raised by 11 meters to optimally handle 24,000 TEU ships. Two bridges are being newly installed. The automation of operations is in preparation. Hapag-Lloyd has held a 30 percent stake in the CTW since 2022. The rail connection Rail Terminal Wilhelmshaven (RTW), in which Hapag-Lloyd holds a 50% stake, has also been electrified and expanded to double track.
