Hako inaugurates new logistics center in Bad Oldesloe
May 29, 2023 at 5:00 PMThe Catholic Hospital Koblenz-Montabaur (KKM) and the ELSEN Group presented their joint practical project in the field of hospital logistics at med.Logistica, an international congress and trade fair for logistics and process management in hospitals. Over approximately 80 lectures and seminars, med.Logistica provided a comprehensive overview of current developments and key aspects of process optimization in clinical everyday life on May 16 and 17, 2023, in Leipzig.
(Koblenz) In the lecture titled “Re-organization of Secondary Activities: How Nursing Staff Can Focus on Their Core Competence,” the practical partners from KKM and ELSEN reported how they have freed hospital staff from logistical secondary activities to release more resources for patient care and alleviate the symptoms of the nursing shortage.
“Logistics takes place not only on the road but also within hospitals in the form of bed and meal transports. Such accompanying processes should be handled by someone who does nothing else. Only then can nursing staff focus on patient care,” says Jérôme Korn-Fourcade, Regional Manager of the Catholic Hospital Koblenz-Montabaur. “With ELSEN, we have found a partner who supports us in process optimizations and provides us with appropriately trained personnel for all logistical activities.”
Nursing Staff No Longer Willing to Take on Secondary Activities
Since 2019, KKM has relied on the logistical services of the ELSEN Group. For example, the logistics service provider takes over the supply tours between the various locations of the hospital network. In spring 2022, another project was launched: the takeover of intra-hospital logistical secondary activities by personnel from the ELSEN Group. Consequently, the nursing staff at KKM is freed from time-consuming tasks and can once again focus on their core competence, patient care. Michael Späth, Vice President Lean Research & Digital Development of the ELSEN Group: “The self-understanding of nursing staff has changed in recent years. Many employees are no longer willing to take on secondary activities.” A clear delineation of tasks is therefore all the more important. Only in this way can the attractiveness of the profession be increased and maintained in the long term.
Sharing Success Stories with Other Hospital Representatives
Both project partners agree: The med.Logistica congress was a good opportunity to share the success story with other hospital representatives and to exchange ideas on-site.
