Cognex Improves Logistics Processes Through Edge Learning
Mar 23, 2023 at 7:45 PMThe internationally active Geis Group will soon produce solar power at its headquarters in Bad Neustadt. The logistics service provider has now agreed with the building technology specialist Adites. The first photovoltaic power plant of the Geis Group is expected to be fully installed by the end of September.
(Bad Neustadt) “MissionZero” is a core element of the Geis Group’s sustainability strategy – its goal: to make the corporate group climate-neutral by 2040. On the way there, the Geis Group aims to save around 65 percent of CO2 by 2030. “For this, we also need climate-neutral electricity and are therefore investing in in-house electricity production with photovoltaic systems,” explain the managing partners Hans-Wolfgang Geis and Jochen Geis.
“Green” electricity for Bad Neustadt and other locations
The first of these systems will be installed on the roofs of the forwarding and logistics terminals in Bad Neustadt. The 1.3-MWp solar power plant generates about 1.3 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year – equivalent to the annual consumption of over 400 households. This facility covers the needs of the branch for building technology and electric forklifts as well as for electric trucks and cars. In addition, the Geis Group can use the “green” electricity at other operational sites under a Power Purchase Agreement.
The solar power plant in Bad Neustadt consists of a total of 3,260 modules, of which 790 are glass-free ultra-light modules. They provide a comparable yield with two-thirds less weight than conventional glass panels.
Further photovoltaic systems planned
The installation work on the roofs of the Geis buildings in Bad Neustadt is expected to begin in May. All work is to be completed by the end of September, allowing Geis to utilize renewable solar energy within this year. “We are pleased that we can set an important milestone on our MissionZero together with the experts from Adites,” say Hans-Wolfgang Geis and Jochen Geis. “The next steps for CO2 reduction are already planned: We are currently developing concepts for photovoltaic systems on our roof areas at additional locations. Here we can utilize much more potential in the future.”
