Logistics Service Provider DSV Expands Offerings in Northern Germany
Mar 4, 2023 at 2:52 PMThe logistics service provider Fiege is now deploying e-trucks. The battery-powered vehicles are operating at four locations for the Healthcare and Fast Moving Consumer Goods business sectors – and are intended to help Fiege take an important step closer to its declared goal of climate neutrality.
(Greven) The Fiege Group from Greven in Westphalia has acquired its first four e-trucks. The battery-powered vehicles of the types Volvo FH and Designwerk High Cab are being used by Fiege in regional transport for various customers at its locations in Münster, Biblis, Bocholt, and Rangsdorf in the Full Truck Load and partial loads sectors. The electric tractor units are rental vehicles from the Greven partner company Greiwing Truck & Trailer GmbH (GTT). A fifth e-truck is expected to follow shortly.
Felix Fiege, Co-CEO of the Fiege Group, which has been led by him and his cousin Jens Fiege in the fifth generation of this 150-year-old family business, says: “It is our ambition to develop the most sustainable logistics solutions together with our customers on our path to becoming a climate-neutral company. Especially in the transport sector, where we face significant challenges regarding environmental protection, we are consistently looking for ways to reduce our environmental impact. The deployment of our first emission-free e-trucks brings us an important step closer to this goal. We are excited to see how the battery-powered vehicles perform in practical use, and we are grateful to have a reliable and experienced partner in GTT by our side.”
Hannes Streeck, Managing Director of the Fiege business unit Fast Moving Consumer Goods, for which three of the four vehicles will be used, adds: “We want to make our logistics solutions consistently sustainable. Our logistics centers are already powered exclusively by green electricity, and we are now focusing on the transport sector. This way, we can operate emission-free for our customers in the future, regardless of their distribution structures. We will reinvest the revenues generated into our sustainable vehicle fleet to gradually achieve the transformation to a fully environmentally friendly ecological logistics.”
The procurement of the e-trucks was coordinated by Fiege tec. Three of the four tractor units come from Volvo, while the fourth from Designwerk Technologies is also based on the technology of the Swedish manufacturer. Thanks to batteries with a net capacity of over 450 kilowatt-hours, the vehicles have a range of up to 300 kilometers. To ensure sufficient energy supply, Fiege is installing powerful fast charging stations with a charging capacity of up to 150 kilowatts at the locations in Münster, Biblis, Bocholt, and Rangsdorf. Heinrich Schorn, Head of Transport, says: “The deployment of the first e-trucks is a valuable milestone in our e-mobility strategy. We are deliberately testing the e-truck fleet in four different regions and two business areas to gain insights into different transport infrastructures, customer and transport requirements, as well as impacts along our supply chain.”
