The globally operating logistics service provider Rhenus is deepening its service portfolio for customers in the steel industry, trade, and processing: With the acquisition of Robert Schmitz GmbH, the Rhenus Group gains comprehensive expertise in the storage, procurement, and transport of special equipment for the forging and cold rolling industry.
(Holzwickede/Hagen) Robert Schmitz Spedition GmbH & Co. KG is a specialized partner for the forging and cold rolling industry. Based at its headquarters in Hagen, the Europe-wide operating logistics and forwarding company boasts more than 200,000 square meters of storage space. Its core expertise lies in the storage and multimodal transport handling of wire rods, coils, slit strips, and stamped products. The valuable, highly sensitive materials require special handling and specific storage conditions. State-of-the-art storage systems specifically heat the storage areas and regulate humidity. For the transport of special equipment with piece weights of up to 35 tons, 25 tractors from the company’s own fleet are ready. A large portion of the semi-trailers is equipped with coil troughs for safe and efficient shipping. Through a company-owned rail connection at the Hagen site, Robert Schmitz can handle more than 250 wagons weekly.
