Lufthansa Cargo Launches New Freight Flight to Northern Norway
Nov 16, 2022 at 5:49 PMThree years ago, the new apprenticeship in Transport and Distribution Logistics was launched at Austrian Post. This marked the first time in Austria that an apprenticeship was introduced to cover the logistical requirements of the last mile. Now, the first 23 apprentices have successfully passed their final exams, eight of them with distinction. 17 of these apprentices are still employed at the Post.
(Wien) “We are proud that in the apprenticeship of Transport and Distribution Logistics, which we introduced three years ago in Austria, the first 23 graduates have successfully completed their training. We are fostering talent and enabling a modern education, equipping apprentices for their future careers at the Post. I am very pleased and extend my heartfelt congratulations to our graduates,” says Peter Umundum, Director of Parcel & Logistics, Austrian Post AG.
The apprenticeship was diverse and varied
“The apprenticeship was diverse and varied for me. We were at different training stations and gained many insights into the Post. I really liked that, as otherwise you only know the delivery staff and the employees at the counter. The entire overview from the moment a shipment is sent until the moment it is delivered was very enlightening. The trainers were dedicated to teaching us as much as possible and allowing us to work independently. Through the rotation, we often had the opportunity to prove our skills. The bonuses and goodies we received as apprentices were also great,” says Katharina Ziegler, one of the first graduates and now an area management assistant at the delivery base 8200 Gleisdorf.
As part of the apprenticeship, the young people are trained in the delivery bases and logistics centers. They learn about the entire process chain of shipments, with a focus on last-mile processes, and also receive personality development training. Currently, around 130 apprentices are training in the profession of Transport and Distribution Logistics throughout Austria.
A total of seven apprenticeship professions
In addition to the apprenticeship in Transport and Distribution Logistics, the Post trains apprentices in seven other professions. These are the apprenticeship professions:
- Business Logistics Clerk
- Office Clerk
- Purchaser
- Retail Clerk with a focus on Telecommunications
- E-Commerce
- Electrotechnician
- IT System Technician
- Transport and Distribution Logistics Specialist
Modern working environment and apprenticeship with diploma
In addition to a future-proof education in a successful company and a modern working environment, the Post also offers the apprenticeship with diploma. Numerous company benefits – such as participation in company success, sports and health programs, meal vouchers – as well as additional training opportunities are included in the apprenticeship package. Furthermore, the Post pays for the driving license for all apprentices who stay with the company for two years after successfully completing their apprenticeship. The apprentice compensation amounts to between 750.08 and 1,573.46 euros per month, depending on the profession and year of apprenticeship.
