Hellmann Launches Central Warehouse for STIHL in Völklingen
Nov 16, 2022 at 12:47 PMDHL Freight opens a new freight terminal in Villingen-Schwenningen in the southwest of Baden-Württemberg, thereby enhancing its general cargo network. The company is responding to the significantly increased demand for national and international logistics solutions in southern Germany with this launch.
(Bonn/Villingen-Schwenningen) “With the continuous expansion and modernization of our logistics network, we ensure the best possible service and maximum efficiency in the development of transport solutions for our customers. As part of Deutsche Post DHL Group, we have committed ourselves to applying the highest environmental and sustainability standards in the construction and expansion of locations like Villingen-Schwenningen as part of our sustainability roadmap. For us, the highest service quality and environmental protection go hand in hand,” says Thomas Vogel, CEO of DHL Freight DACH.
The new freight terminal offers logistics services on approximately 6,000 m2 of space, both in the general cargo network and in direct transports. A total of 26 loading gates are available for the delivery and transshipment of freight. Customers from the automotive supply, medical technology, and mechanical engineering sectors in the area from Lake Constance to Albstadt, or Balingen in the Schwarzwald-Baar district, are primarily served. Approximately 800 incoming and outgoing shipments for national and international transport will be processed daily. The buildings of the branch meet the highest energy standards, and energy consumption is fully sustainable and largely covered by a photovoltaic system. A modern heat pump ensures proper climate control. Additionally, publicly accessible e-charging stations for cars are available at the site.
Expansion of the Network is Part of the Corporate Strategy
The expansion of a dense network is an integral part of DHL Freight’s corporate strategy. The densification of the network not only improves transit times for customers but also reduces emissions due to shorter distances, for which electric trucks are already being used in some cases. In the first three quarters of 2022, three new locations were added to the DHL Freight network in Erlensee (Hesse), Gochseim (Bavaria), and Mettmann (North Rhine-Westphalia). This enables the provision of reliable, fast, and high-quality transport and logistics solutions for customers in the long term. The targeted development of regional locations effectively connects them with DHL Freight’s transport options, thus enabling an even denser and more efficient network.
