Oct 28, 2022 at 8:01 PMThe container hinterland logistics network Contargo was awarded the Global Transition Award 2022 on October 27 during a festive award ceremony. This year, the award is being presented for the first time and honors companies for their decarbonization strategies, which are intended to significantly contribute to achieving the 1.5°C target.
Besides Contargo, four other companies were recognized in the categories of Transition Pioneer and Transition Enabler, as well as with a special award. Contargo was rated by the jury as a Transition Pioneer because it is positively noted that “the company considers the indirect emissions of its supply chain in its objectives, and the goals are ambitious enough to put the company on a holistic Paris-compatible path.”
Innovative Technologies Are Being Rolled Out
It further states: “In a sector that is difficult to decarbonize, Contargo takes on the challenge and invests early in its own transition. Innovative technologies are being piloted, evaluated, and rolled out to other locations in case of success. In doing so, the company makes a valuable contribution to the development of climate-friendly innovations and reduces its dependence on fossil fuels. At Contargo, the climate strategy is an integral part of the business strategy and aims to help the company differentiate itself from the competition.”
In addition to much praise, the award winner also received a suggestion on how the strategy could be further integrated into the company’s team structures. Jürgen Albersmann, Managing Director of Contargo GmbH & Co. KG: “We are, of course, delighted with this wonderful award for our previous efforts on the path to decarbonization, but we are equally grateful for the suggestion to include climate performance in the compensation structure and objectives of executives and employees in the future.”
Fully Electric 44-Ton Trucks
Contargo has been testing fully electric 44-ton trucks in local transport since 2019 and has been participating in the testing of overhead hybrid trucks on a section of the A5 in Hesse since 2020, which was electrified in 2019 as part of the ELISA project with the help of Hessen Mobil. The company documents these and other strategies on the path to decarbonization every two years in its sustainability reports.
