PORT OF KIEL welcomes ferry “Aura Seaways” from DFDS
Sep 21, 2022 at 4:20 PMThe German frozen and fresh food industry has today appealed in an open letter to the Chancellor and the Federal Government to financially support the particularly energy-intensive medium-sized enterprises in their sector in light of the massively increased energy prices. The occasion for the open letter is the inquiry of the Federal Government, in which Federal Minister of Food and Agriculture Cem Özdemir will participate.
(Berlin) The initiators of the letter are the German Frozen Food Institute (dti) and the Association of German Cold Storage and Refrigerated Logistics Companies (VDKL).
“The food industry is currently experiencing the worst crisis since the end of World War II,” explain dti Managing Director Sabine Eichner and Jan Peilnsteiner, Managing Director of VDKL. “In particular, the energy-intensive medium-sized frozen and fresh food industry is facing an existential threat due to the energy crisis, with some even preparing for a possible insolvency. It is one minute to twelve! If the Federal Government does not act immediately, significant supply gaps in the daily food supply for people in Germany are imminent.”
Advance Energy Supply Security
The signatories of the open letter urge the Federal Government to prioritize the security of energy supply “with the highest priority,” to expedite the announced energy subsidies, and to open the energy cost reduction program for medium-sized companies in the cold and frozen food chain.
