VTG: FastTrack Now Available at DUSS Terminal Munich-Riem
Sep 5, 2022 at 7:30 PMDachser’s general cargo shipments will now be delivered using fully electric trucks. Emission-Free Delivery starts in the Bavarian capital. In a defined city center area, the logistics service provider will now deliver all parcel and general cargo shipments emission-free. For this purpose, electric trucks of the type FUSO eCanter will be used.
(Munich) In the first step, starting in September, businesses and private recipients in the postal code area 80539 will be exclusively served by a fully electric truck of the type FUSO eCanter. Two more of these vehicles are expected to be added in early 2023. Then, DACHSER can expand Emission-Free Delivery in Munich to the postal code areas 80331 and 80333, creating a total emission-free delivery zone of approximately 1.6 square kilometers in the busy streets around Sendlinger Tor, Stachus, Odeonsplatz, Theresienstraße, and Maximilianstraße. “The proximity of the Dachser branch in Munich to the city center is the optimal condition for operating fully electric trucks. Delivering with the quiet, electrically powered 7.5-ton trucks contributes to improved air and quality of life in the city,” says Ingo Zimmermann, branch manager in Munich.
Emission-Free for Sustainable, Climate-Friendly Mobility
The sustainable city logistics concept DACHSER Emission-Free Delivery is based on a modular toolbox for city center deliveries. Based on this, battery-electric transporters and trucks, as well as electrically assisted cargo bicycles, are deployed according to local requirements. With these zero-emission vehicles, all shipments are delivered locally emission-free in a defined area of the city center. Therefore, no air pollutants and greenhouse gases are released on-site. Additionally, noise emissions are reduced.
Munich is the third German city, alongside Stuttgart and Freiburg, to benefit from emission-free city center deliveries – Berlin and Hamburg will follow soon. Furthermore, DACHSER Emission-Free Delivery has already been implemented in Oslo, Prague, Strasbourg, Paris, Madrid, Porto, and – also starting in September – in Copenhagen.
Part of the Long-Term Climate Protection Strategy
DACHSER Emission-Free Delivery is part of the logistics provider’s long-term climate protection strategy. To achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement, Dachser is pushing for the transformation of logistics towards low and zero-emission technologies in collaboration with customers and partners. Measures include, among others, the transition of the fleet to zero-emission vehicles and increasing the share of green electricity to 100 percent by sourcing exclusively renewable energy. Additionally, Dachser will promote the development and testing of trucks with hydrogen fuel cell technology as part of pilot projects.
