LBS and LBT criticize solution for ROLA restrictions
Aug 24, 2022 at 4:06 PMWith the Hana Bank Seoul E-Prix, the eighth season of the ABB-FIA Formula E World Championship came to an end in mid-August in South Korea, significantly supported by DHL as the official logistics partner. For the first time, the ‘DHL & Formula E Together Green Award’ was also presented at the end of the season. The first awardee was Monica de Russis from ‘Amigos en el Camino’ (Friends on the Way), crowned as the ‘Together Green Global Hero.’
(Bonn/Seoul) This award honors individuals who contribute to sustainability and/or their fellow humans at the locations of the Formula E races. The Seoul E-Prix was the 100th race for Formula E and also the 100th race supported by DHL. Thanks to extensive experience in sustainable logistics, DHL was able to fully decarbonize road transport and sea freight for Formula E in the 2021/22 season.
First Award as ‘Together Green Global Hero’
Monica de Russis is the president of ‘Amigos en el Camino’, a non-profit organization from Buenos Aires, Argentina. She coordinates a large team of volunteers who distribute food, coffee, soups, clothing, and blankets to the homeless six days a week – always helping with a kind word and an open ear. Monica de Russis has been involved in homeless assistance for about ten years and provides food to over 1,000 people each week. The prize money will be invested in rent for storage and office spaces, materials for mobile shelters, and coats that can also be used as sleeping bags.
“The ‘DHL & Formula E Together Green Award’ provides people like Monica de Russis with a platform through which they can hopefully make an even greater impact. Together with Formula E, we have found an initiative characterized by its strong commitment,” says Arjan Sissing, Head of Group Brand Marketing, Deutsche Post DHL Group (DPDHL).
Extraordinarily Good Deeds
“Monica de Russis and her team are doing extraordinarily good work and selflessly helping those in need. The world needs people like Monica, who dedicate themselves every day with great passion,” says Julia Palle, Sustainability Director of Formula E and a member of the four-person jury that decided on the award.
The exclusive rights to the ‘Together Green Award’ from DHL and Formula E are held by DHL. In every country where a race of the ABB-FIA Formula E World Championship is held, DHL honors an individual who, through their organization, is committed to a more sustainable future as a ‘Sustainability Hero’ or ‘Sustainability Heroine’. The criterion for sustainability can relate to both ecological and social aspects. The three finalists among the heroes and heroines were invited to the Hana Bank E-Prix in Seoul, where they could present their respective projects to the four judges: Julia Palle, Sustainability Director of Formula E, Anna Cabello, Senior Partnership Manager of Formula E, Byungkoo Han, South Korea Country Manager at DHL Express, and Veronica Sanchez, Senior Global Sponsoring Manager at DPDHL. The first prize is endowed with 10,000 euros, while the two runners-up, Joshua Aquinde from Hawaii and Laurah John from Saint Lucia, each receive 1,000 euros.

Hundredth Formula E Race – Complete Decarbonization
The Seoul E-Prix was the 100th race for Formula E and DHL. Since the launch in 2014, DHL has transported over 200 Formula E cars and batteries to 24 cities in 14 countries across six continents. In 2022 alone, DHL transported over 415 tons of freight for Formula E over more than 70,000 kilometers around the globe. As a leading logistics provider, DHL consistently employs transport solutions that minimize environmental impact and continually reduce the CO2 emissions of Formula E. For this purpose, DHL utilizes sustainable biofuels on the road and at sea, as well as multimodal transport solutions that offer maximum efficiency.
“Formula E has completed 100 races in eight seasons. We have developed the most futuristic electric racing cars, held our races in the heart of the world’s most beautiful cities, and built a huge (and growing) fan base – all in trusted collaboration with teams and partners. DHL is an important partner who helps us set new standards in sustainability in top-class motorsport with years of experience and tailored solutions,” says Jamie Reigle, CEO of Formula E.
“DHL has been by Formula E’s side from the very beginning. Both share the same mission of a better, cleaner future. We take care of every little detail so that teams and drivers can perform at their best and motorsport fans around the world can enjoy a great experience – without a bad ecological conscience,” says Sissing.
Sustainability as a Core Pillar
Sustainability is a core pillar of the Deutsche Post DHL Group’s strategy. In its sustainability roadmap, the company has committed to investing seven billion euros in clean, climate-neutral logistics solutions by 2030. In particular, these funds will be directed towards the purchase and development of sustainable fuels, the electrification of delivery vehicles for the last mile, and new, climate-friendly buildings.
