Capacity Bottleneck on the Rhine Valley Railway Threatens Shift and Supply
Aug 21, 2022 at 11:50 AMRhenus Warehousing Solutions has signed an agreement to acquire the Danish company DKI Logistics A/S and its warehousing investment company DKI Automatic A/S (collectively referred to as “DKI”). The third-party logistics provider specializes in complete warehousing and supply chain solutions with tailored value-added services. With this acquisition, Rhenus Warehousing Solutions expands its presence in Europe to the Nordic countries.
(Horsens, DK) Founded in 2001, DKI is now one of the leading Danish third-party logistics providers with 350 employees. DKI operates seven warehouse locations, distributed between its headquarters in the port city of Horsens and the cities of Herning and Køge. With more than 280,000 square meters of warehouse space, DKI offers various services in inbound logistics, storage, order fulfillment, and transportation for the Danish market. Clients include companies from the healthcare sector as well as the FMCG, furniture, clothing, household appliances, and DIY product sectors.
To accommodate the continuous growth of recent years, DKI has consistently invested in automated technologies such as AGVs, robots, conveyor belts, and shuttle systems. Generally, the seven warehouses are characterized by a high degree of automation in picking, packing, and sorting. A new warehouse is currently under construction and is expected to be completed by the end of 2022; another is planned for the coming year.
Andreas Plikat, General Manager of Rhenus Warehousing Solutions, says: “Rhenus Warehousing Solutions and DKI stand for high-quality and scalable customer solutions. Therefore, it was a logical step for us to shape our market entry into the Nordic countries together with DKI.” In addition to geographically complementing the network of Rhenus Warehousing Solutions in Europe, this merger strengthens the presence of the Rhenus Group in the FMCG and healthcare sectors. With the integration of DKI into the Rhenus Group, customers benefit not only from warehousing services but also from a wide range of services, including the global air and sea freight network and extensive European land transport options. The acquisition of DKI is another building block in the continuous growth of the Rhenus Group in Denmark: With locations in Copenhagen and Aarhus, the logistics specialist ensures reliable service in close proximity to its customers.
The acquisition is subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2022.
