TGW Wins VDI Innovation Award for Logistics
Jun 8, 2022 at 6:37 PMThe Liebherr mobile harbour crane series is ready for the future. The new LHM is more digital, efficient, and impresses with a modern exterior design. A new crane control system, expanded sensor integration, and digital information transmission enable future assistance and partial automation systems. Additionally, the Liebherr hybrid system Pactronic and the cabin have been improved according to customer needs.
(Rostock) Liebherr presents groundbreaking technical developments and updates with its new mobile harbour crane that make the LHM product series fit for the future. The key innovation is the implementation of the crane control system “Master V.” This, in conjunction with an even more efficient software architecture, forms the basis for the long-term integration of future assistance and partial automation systems into the crane. Overall, the crane will become significantly more digital, connected, and smarter.
The position of the support system is now monitored by sensors and thus becomes part of the internal data processing. The use of a new support base in the field requires only a software update from Liebherr, providing more flexibility. Another practical advantage is the variable use of digital IP cameras for better monitoring of the crane’s interior and the external crane environment. The new crane control system is powered by an independent power circuit. This allows the crane to be continuously monitored and efficiently protected by cameras without the crane ignition being activated.
New Hybrid System – Pactronic 2.0
The Liebherr hybrid system Pactronic 2.0 represents the second generation of a hydraulic drive system using hybrid technology. A accumulator serves as an energy storage device and supports by providing additional, temporarily stored power when needed. The second generation of Pactronic offers the operator, depending on the work situation, the choice between two operating modes:
- Boost Mode In this mode, the Pactronic acts as a significant power amplifier. Lifting speeds are significantly increased – without the need for a larger or even additional main unit for more power. This massively increases the efficiency of the crane. The LHM with a Pactronic 2.0 has a reduced cycle time and achieves the same performance parameters as a comparable device with two main units.
- Green Mode This mode is designed to save fuel or electricity and reduce CO2 emissions. During lifting operations, the Pactronic 2.0 supports the main unit to such an extent that less power is required from the main drive, despite maintaining the same lifting speeds. As a result, the absolute fuel or electricity consumption and emissions decrease. The second generation Pactronic is thus even more tailored to the actual needs of users. By adjusting the individual lifting height, the power output of the Pactronic is correspondingly adjusted. The additional energy from the Pactronic is distributed throughout the entire lifting process. It is also important that the new Pactronic responds to changes in external temperature and the resulting pressure changes in the accumulator, thereby further increasing the efficiency of the system.
New Maritime Cabin
In redesigning the LHM cabin, the crane operator was the focus. Thanks to the new coupling of the control lever and armrest, not only does driver comfort increase, but the control of the crane also becomes more precise and safer. With the new integrated touch panel, all crane functions are clearly and intuitively selectable, greatly simplifying crane operation. An integrated bottle cooler provides cool drinks – even on warm days. A revised climate concept significantly enhances the comfort of the machine operator, whether air conditioning or heating. It also ensures the quick dehumidification of fogged windows, thus providing clear visibility and increased safety.
Innovation Has Never Looked So Good
The color compositions of the latest LHM generation combine the classic Liebherr yellow with new accents in black, gray, and white. The agile-looking design reflects how long-standing tradition and corporate values merge with advanced technologies. The modern color scheme gives the machines a distinctive appearance and immediate recognition. The blue accent in the color composition and the blue E symbol next to the crane type designation give all alternatively powered devices a unique look. This allows all future LHM customers to directly convey advanced and environmentally friendly crane technology to their stakeholders.
