BFM Fears Wave of Insolvencies in the Logistics Sector Due to Oil Embargo
May 17, 2022 at 6:14 PMThe innovative Sustainability Management Platform (SMP) from WAVES enables companies of all sizes to conduct carbon footprint calculations and sustainability analyses. This helps decision-makers across all industries to make their operations more sustainable. The cargo cooperation Cargo Trans Logistik AG (CTL) is now also relying on WAVES’ SMP, providing partner companies with an important tool to determine their own logistical CO2 footprint.
(Luxembourg/Homberg) The startup WAVES, rooted in Luxembourg, has developed the world’s first modular cloud platform for corporate sustainability management. Since the CO2 savings potential in the transport sector is particularly high, the Sustainable Transport product has been specifically tailored to the needs of the freight forwarding, transport, and logistics industry. At the center is the carbon footprint of transports, which can be calculated precisely down to the shipment level. With the help of cloud technology, real-time data, and the use of recognized standards, WAVES is able to generate reliable information and conduct detailed evaluations. Instead of using generic data, the Sustainability Management Platform (SMP) from WAVES works with actual values that can be integrated from the respective companies into the SMP. This is how the new collaboration with the cargo cooperation Cargo Trans Logistik AG (CTL) works, which provides relevant data daily to enable extremely accurate emissions measurement.
Transparent Sustainability Management
Founded in 1993, Cargo Trans Logistik AG (CTL) is a medium-sized freight forwarding cooperation that handles approximately 2.5 million cargo shipments per year with more than 170 partner freight forwarders. CTL specializes in handling cargo up to seven meters long and partial loads up to ten tons. It has more than 35,000 square meters of transshipment area at six strategically located sites in Germany. The transport of cargo is coordinated from the headquarters in Homberg (Efze) and carried out nationwide and in 37 European countries with the help of a powerful, comprehensive partner network. In addition to reliable goods transport, CTL offers its partner companies a variety of administrative and operational additional services. Thanks to the collaboration with WAVES, this now also includes transparent sustainability management.
Economic Viability and Sustainability Cannot Be Separated
Cargo emissions measurement at the shipment level “Economic viability and sustainability can no longer be viewed separately or even oppositely. We must understand and manage them as equally important goals,” says Francesco De Lauso, CEO of Cargo Trans Logistik AG. “We have learned that economic viability begins with transparency. Only those who have all data and facts away from average values can make the right decisions. This principle also applies to sustainability, and therefore we are looking forward to positioning ourselves and our partners with the help of WAVES through precise cargo emissions measurement at the shipment level.” Participating CTL partners can thus better meet current climate protection requirements in tenders. Due to increasing customer pressure and upcoming legislation, even smaller or medium-sized companies that still have catching up to do in this area must now urgently deal more intensively with aspects of sustainability.
Partnership of Sustainability Pioneers
“By using our SMP, Cargo Trans Logistik AG can spare its partner companies the step of having to build their own sustainability department,” explains WAVES CEO Armin Neises. “Currently, the pressure on the transport industry is increasing. Inaction in the area of sustainability will sooner or later lead to significant revenue losses. Due to climate change, CO2 emissions must be urgently reduced. Another important aspect is the currently very high energy prices: every energy saving also enables a significant reduction in costs. To process the high data volumes in the logistics environment, powerful systems are needed that allow for very quick identification of high energy consumers, defining savings targets, and initiating concrete measures for reduction. Renowned transport companies like CTL have long recognized the growing challenge. They are already investing in sustainability today to be future-proof and to adapt quickly to further tightening of legislation. WAVES feels particularly connected to sustainability pioneers who consciously want to be leaders in their industry. Therefore, we are very much looking forward to a successful and inspiring collaboration with Cargo Trans Logistik AG.”
About WAVES
WAVES was founded in 2019 in Luxembourg with the vision of making sustainability visible through digitalization. With its innovation, the Sustainability Management Platform (SMP), WAVES offers its B2B customers from various industries carbon footprint calculations and a variety of sustainability analyses, enabling decision-makers to align their companies more sustainably.
That WAVES has hit the nerve of the times with its “Platform as a Service” solution is also proven by prestigious awards: In 2021, the startup was already awarded the Solar Impulse Efficient Solution Label and named Cloud Tech Innovator Of The Year for its innovative SMP. In 2022, the label “Made in Luxembourg” and a World Summit Award in the category “Environment & Green Energy” were added.
