Trans.eu organizes a transport bridge for Ukraine
Mar 11, 2022 at 1:40 PMFuel prices are exploding due to the Ukraine crisis, and this is happening daily. Many transport entrepreneurs are struggling for their existence. The association BLV-pro e.V. calls on the German government in a statement to take action. The appeal is directed specifically at Robert Habeck, Vice Chancellor and Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection.
The statement of BLV-pro e.V. on the development of fuel prices in Germany in full:
“On February 8, 2022, BLV pro made an urgent appeal to politics and demanded an immediate fuel price cap.
Now we are a month further: where do the transport companies stand currently? What has the appeal achieved?
As you can see, you see nothing – NOTHING has been done in response to our demand. Our disappointment with the attitude and various statements of politics regarding the still rising fuel prices is beyond words. We feel misunderstood and assume that politics still does not understand what threatens Germany if logistics come to a standstill. Currently, the first supply chains are collapsing, consumers are facing empty shelves, as stores can only sell what they have received. We warned of ‘English conditions’ and now see even more catastrophic situations approaching. Initial shortages of cooking oil and staple foods, citizens having to choose between a warm home, electricity, or food. The automotive industry, the backbone of the German economy, is weakening.
We wonder, what does the future look like?
From the perspective of Karl-Hermann Goudschaal, a board member of BLV pro, it cannot continue like this. In his transport company, open positions are not being filled, and the shutdown of some vehicles is imminent. Karl-Hermann Goudschaal says: “Without support for small and medium-sized enterprises, many will have to file for insolvency in one to two weeks.”
Markus Brandt, a gas transporter and also on the board of BLV pro, already warned at the end of February 2022 of a collapse in the energy and fuel supply sector. Russia’s attack on Ukraine and concerns about energy shortages are now causing prices to soar. He advocates not only for commercial diesel and immediate state aid but also for faster approval processes for the rapid construction of port terminals for the landing of gas and oil in Germany. Many transport companies are facing existential questions, and some are already grounding vehicles.
BLV pro urgently calls for immediate assistance for companies in German freight transport to maintain the supply of the population and appeals to Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck to lift his blockade against the requests for help.
Mr. Minister Habeck, you have a duty of care – act NOW”
