Cargo Trans Logistik opens its own West-HUB in Düsseldorf
Feb 21, 2022 at 5:08 PMDB Schenker, one of the world’s leading global logistics service providers, has opened a new, sustainable logistics terminal in the rapidly growing district of Almnäs in southern Stockholm. The new terminal, which is integrated into DB Schenker’s European network, features 98 gates over an area of 122,000 m2 and meets the highest environmental and sustainability standards.
(Frankfurt/Göteborg) The construction has created 200 new jobs. The terminal’s central processing facility can deliver 4,000 packages per hour and has a total area of 14,400 m2. This makes it one of the largest in DB Schenker’s network, which includes 29 terminals across Sweden. “This new logistics location improves service for our customers in Södertälje and northern Södermanland,” says Magnus Strand, CEO of DB Schenker Cluster Sweden, Denmark, Iceland. “In addition, the facility creates around 200 new jobs.”
“Our terminal in Södertälje allows for both earlier deliveries and later pickups for our customers south of Stockholm,” says Franco Carbajal, head of the new DB Schenker district Södertälje. “This is a significant advantage for both the shipper and the recipient. Furthermore, we now have higher delivery reliability because goods no longer have to pass through Stockholm as they did before.”
Sustainability from the Start
The terminal is equipped with solar panels with a capacity of 150 kW, which will generate approximately 140,000 kWh of electricity annually. Additionally, geothermal energy is utilized, resulting in minimal environmental impact. Charging stations for electric vehicles are installed at the freight gates and parking lots. The site is also prepared for the transition to a fully electric vehicle fleet and, thanks to its location near Sweden’s main traffic routes E20/E4, has all the prerequisites for a future logistics hub.
