Feb 21, 2022 at 5:18 PMThe Cargo Trans Logistik AG (CTL) has put its new transshipment base in Düsseldorf into operation. This logistics network is responding to the ongoing growth and positive development of its partner companies. They now have more than 4,000 square meters of transshipment area available in the Rhine metropolis. The general cargo cooperation is also building its own local transport structures at the new location and is delivering goods directly.
(Düsseldorf / Homberg-Efze) “With the new West-HUB, we offer our partners in a challenging region the greatest possible flexibility to optimally respond to order peaks,” says CTL board member Francesco De Lauso. In addition to the transshipment points in Aurach, Grolsheim, Lauenau, and the central HUB in Homberg (Efze), Düsseldorf is now the fifth location that CTL operates independently. Another will be maintained in cooperation with L.I.T. Speditions GmbH in Leipzig. The strong growth of the network and its members has made the opening of the West-HUB necessary. “In the past two years alone, we have grown by more than ten percent each year, which is why we decided on a significant expansion of our capacities,” says De Lauso.
After a challenging first half of the year, initial discussions about a site expansion in the Ruhr area were held last summer. In October 2021, the starting signal for the new West-HUB was given: “Within five months, we built the entire infrastructure from the ground up. In addition to technical and procedural preparations, this also included the hiring of new staff,” says De Lauso.
The new location in Düsseldorf will not only be used as a pure transshipment point. CTL is simultaneously building its own depot and local transport structures to independently handle general cargo transport. “The primary goal is the stability of the network. Since it is difficult to find partners for the last mile in metropolitan regions like Cologne/Düsseldorf, we are entering the delivery ourselves there,” emphasizes De Lauso. With this model, the cooperation has been gathering positive experiences in the Hanover region for several years and will now expand the offering.

Conditions for Positive Development
Georg Starck, Country Director Germany of Mileway, the manager of real estate for last-mile logistics, says: “We appreciate the collaborative partnership throughout the entire process and are pleased that we were able to support the expansion plans of Cargo Trans Logistik AG and provide a suitable area in a competitive metropolitan region.” The contract for the HUB in Düsseldorf was signed for five years. Francesco De Lauso assures: “Together with Mileway, we fulfill our self-imposed mission to ensure stability, coverage, and quality for our network, thus creating the conditions for further positive development.”
