Swiss Federal Council Aims to Promote Traffic Space for Slow Traffic
Dec 10, 2021 at 5:54 PMDHL Express Germany has officially begun construction on its new operational site in Bremen. Located at Louis-Krages-Straße 30-38, the world’s leading provider of international express services will develop production and office spaces of approximately 5,000 m² on a site of nearly 18,000 m². The project developer is Mileway Germany GmbH from Frankfurt am Main. Preparatory construction measures for the new building are currently underway.
(Bonn, Bremen) “We continue to invest consistently in our network in Germany,” explains Markus Reckling, Managing Director of DHL Express Germany. “Sustainability, in line with the newly introduced sustainability strategy of the DPDHL Group, is the focus of our construction project. Through heat pump technology, photovoltaics, and LED technology, we aim to achieve a significantly improved CO2 balance for the new building in Bremen.”
While previous locations were primarily heated with gas, the new station will use a heat pump for 70 percent of its heating needs. Additionally, photovoltaic technology, already utilized at other locations, will be installed with a significantly larger capacity. While previous systems reached up to 100 kW peak, the building’s technology in Bremen can operate with up to 250 kW peak through its own PV system. Furthermore, the building will feature improved ventilation technology in the administrative areas and height-adjustable dock seals at the gates. Externally, the building will be pre-equipped for 80 positions for electric vehicles, with 30 percent of these being equipped with wall boxes for electric vehicles in the first phase.
The new operational site will have three so-called PUD fingers (“Pick-up and Delivery”) with direct loading and unloading options for 96 delivery vehicles simultaneously. It will also feature a state-of-the-art sorting facility designed for a shipment volume of 6,000 packages per hour, through which all national and international DHL Express shipments will be processed quickly and efficiently. With the use of the latest technology, the capacities of the previous location will be nearly tripled. “Through these operational innovations, we achieve shorter processing time windows in shipment handling and significantly improved processes,” Reckling further explains. “The investments allow us to connect our customers in the region even better with our global network.”
Employees Benefit from Ergonomic Workstations
Additionally, the approximately 230 employees at the new site, located about three kilometers from the previous location, will benefit from ergonomic workstations in the office and the hall, as well as modern social rooms. A particular focus is placed on health and wellbeing for our employees. In the first phase, six employee parking spaces will also be equipped with electric charging points, and up to one-third of the total parking spaces will be pre-equipped for potential future expansion. The new DHL Express station will also meet the security requirements of the Transported Asset Protection Association (TAPA) and thus receive the internationally recognized TAPA Class A certification as the highest security level in air transport.
Investment Volume of 22 Million Euros
The total investment volume for the new DHL Express site amounts to 22 million euros. The relocation and commissioning are planned for the end of 2022. DHL Express believes that the new building positions it well for the anticipated growth in the region over the coming years. The new construction in Bremen is part of an extensive infrastructure program through which DHL Express is fundamentally modernizing and expanding its production facilities in Germany, including Dortmund, Munich, Bielefeld, and Berlin.
