The Future Network for Single Wagon Traffic Rail is Growing Steadily
Dec 1, 2021 at 4:20 PMThe Freight Transport Center (GVZ) Region Augsburg reflected on 25 years of development history in a small circle of local companies. Mayor Richard Greiner congratulated in his greeting as deputy chairman of the GVZ committees on this success story.
(Augsburg) On October 15, 1996, the GVZ Development Measures GmbH of the cities of Augsburg, Gersthofen, and Neusäß was registered in the commercial register. As the trustee of the construction measure, it manages the development process until all areas are marketed. Currently, only a few areas are still available from 61 hectares. Soon, 85,000 m² will be marketed as a service park intermodal directly at the container terminal.
At the opening of the anniversary celebration, Richard Greiner, Mayor of the City of Neusäß and deputy chairman of the supervisory board of GVZ Development Measures GmbH, said: “Quality, ambiance, and the sustainable concept make our freight transport center something special. In close contact with all stakeholders, it has been sustainably developed over 25 years. Today, it is an important building block of our regional value creation. It consolidates traffic and shifts it to rail. This seems even more urgent today than it was 25 years ago.”
A project addressing the question “Quo vadis, GVZ?” directs attention to the future in the anniversary year. The basis for this was the presentation of results from a survey conducted in the summer among local companies. It marks the first milestone on the roadmap. The goal is to create a decision-making basis with requirements for a location management that can secure the quality of the freight transport center as a premium location in the long term from the perspective of the settled companies and involved stakeholders.
Important Infrastructure Component for the Region
“Our freight transport center is an important infrastructure component for the region and should remain a premium location for logistics companies. With the sale of the last area, we, like many freight transport centers in Germany, face the question of how to maintain the quality of the location in the long term. We see the answer to this as an important step towards completing the location development,” comments Ralf Schmidtmann on the 25th anniversary of GVZ Development Measures GmbH, which he has represented as managing director for almost ten years. With the sale of the last area, the three cities will dissolve the development measures company and the planning association founded in 2007. From this point on, the joint purpose association will cover the maintenance of the areas.
