Saloodo! Now Expanding with Fourfold ISO Certification
Nov 19, 2021 at 6:11 PMThe Volvo FH with I-Save and the models with gas drive, the Volvo FH LNG and Volvo FM LNG, excel in the important categories for sustainable transport “Trucks” and “Gas-Powered Trucks”. The European Transport Award for Sustainability 2022 was presented yesterday by the freight transport newspaper “transport” in Munich.
(Ismaning/Munich) “We are very proud to have won these important awards in both categories for efficient long-distance freight transport. The efficient Volvo FH with its I-Save Turbo Compound is the most fuel-efficient truck Volvo has ever built. But the development of diesel engines does not stop here. We will still need them for a long time in these times of change and make them even more economical,” said Peter Ström, Vice President and Managing Director of Volvo Trucks in Germany.
In the category “Gas-Powered Trucks”, the Volvo FH and Volvo FM with LNG or Bio-LNG drive, which have been on the market since 2018, were able to secure the top position. They are an important part of Volvo Trucks’ strategy towards lower CO2 emissions in long-distance transport. The LNG engines from Volvo are based on the diesel principle and are therefore particularly efficient and economical. When using conventional LNG, they save up to 20% CO2. With the use of BIO LNG, CO2 savings of up to 100% are even possible.*
Especially economical
“Especially economical in consumption – this is how the two LNG trucks from Volvo prevailed against the competition,” said Christine Harttmann, editor-in-chief of “transport” and member of the expert jury.
“The use of LNG was initially seen by many only as a bridging technology. However, we believe that LNG and BIO LNG are an important part of the path to zero emissions. Volvo Trucks relies on electric trucks, gas, and diesel trucks to achieve the Paris Climate Agreement,” said Peter Ström regarding the award wins.
Fuel savings combined with intelligent technology
In the decision of the expert jury for the two winning technologies from Volvo Trucks, economic, ecological, and social criteria played an important role. Fuel savings combined with intelligent technology were decisive for the award in both categories.
“The manufacturer also impressed the jury with its social commitment, especially regarding the traffic safety of children. Additionally, it was in favor of the manufacturer Volvo Trucks that two of its plants already produce in a climate-neutral manner,” said Christine Harttmann justifying the jury’s decision.
