eFrexx Platform Enhances Offerings for Transport Partners
Nov 10, 2021 at 6:20 PMAfter about a year of construction, Fiege has commenced operations at the new Mega Center in Gengenbach. On this occasion, the family-owned company invited guests to a small inauguration ceremony on Wednesday. Present were Gengenbach’s Mayor Thorsten Erny, the project team, business partners, and representatives from FALKEN, the largest customer in the new Fiege logistics center.
(Greven/Gengenbach) Mayor Thorsten Erny expressed his pleasure at having another family-run business in the area. “Fiege, as one of the leading contract logistics providers in Europe, enriches our region as a business location,” said Erny. “Despite the Corona pandemic, Fiege has implemented the new construction project on schedule and created new jobs here in Gengenbach.”
On the approximately 40,000 square meters of warehouse space in Kinzigpark, located between Strasbourg, Freiburg, and Stuttgart, Fiege handles logistics for various customers, including FALKEN. Operations at the new Fiege Mega Center in Gengenbach have been running for about six weeks. After the completion at the end of August and the move of the industrial and tire business in September, the four halls are filled with goods and the processes are established. Currently, around 6,000 tires arrive at the warehouse daily. However, despite the high number of tires, only about 20 trucks visit the new logistics center each day, as Fiege places great importance on efficient transportation.
Alfred Messink, CFO at Fiege, is pleased with the growth in the industrial and tire business: “In Gengenbach, we can represent our own growth strategy as well as that of our customers. One in four tires on cars in Germany comes from Fiege – and many of them are now stored here in Gengenbach.” Christian Wierling, Managing Director of the business unit, says: “The location in Gengenbach is the perfect complement to our branch in Lahr, which is about 30 kilometers away. From here, we have the opportunity to serve southern Germany, Switzerland, and France even better.”
Significant milestone for FALKEN
“The commissioning of the logistics center in Gengenbach was a very special moment for Falken and marks an important milestone in our expansion course in Europe,” says Markus Bögner, COO and President of FALKEN Tyre Europe, on the occasion of the opening. “I am convinced that this logistics center will provide immediate benefits not only to OEM and trade customers in Germany, the regions of France and Switzerland, but throughout Europe, and will form the basis for our further growth.”
High-quality and modern construction
The logistics property in Gengenbach, built in high-quality and modern construction by the Fiege Real Estate business unit in collaboration with the architectural firm Krüger Consult, the Bremer AG as the general contractor, and LIP Invest as the investor, meets the Gold status of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB). The divisibility of the individual hall sections and the numerous loading gates allow for a high degree of third-party usability. The property features LED lighting, a photovoltaic system, infrastructure for e-mobility, and a comprehensive building management system that enables sustainable and cross-trade operations. The electricity generated by the PV system is partially used directly by Fiege as the operator of the property.
