Hupac Takes Over the Operation of the Novara CIM Terminal

Combiconnect is the company of the Hupac Group that will take over the operation of the Novara CIM terminal starting from October 18, 2021. The agreement signed on September 15, 2021, between Combiconnect and Eurogateway provides for the transfer of the Novara CIM West terminal business, while Combiconnect has also been commissioned by CIM SpA to operate the terminal.

(Chiasso/Novara) “Our goal is to further develop this strategic terminal for the transfer of transalpine traffic. Today, Novara CIM serves over 60 train pairs weekly, mostly operated by Hupac Intermodal, on a 150,000 square meter area with 7 loading and unloading tracks,” explains Piero Solcà, Director of Terminal Infrastructures of the Hupac Group. “The investment plans are already in the pipeline and include extending the tracks from the current 600 meters to the European standard of 740 meters, new entry and exit tracks, portal cranes, and a sophisticated OCR system for the automatic reading of data from trains and loading units.”

Employees Will Be Taken Over

The 37 employees currently working at the CIM terminal in Novara will have their employment relationship transferred to Combiconnect, ensuring continuity of employment in full compliance with the applicable collective agreement and existing regulations. Combiconnect has already ordered two new cranes and three locomotives, which will be available and ready for use from October 18.

Eurogateway, the operator of the Novara Boschetto terminal, will continue to be a strategic partner of the Hupac Group. Combiconnect Srl was founded in early 2021 and is 80% owned by Hupac AG, Chiasso, and 20% by Centro Interportuale Merci SpA, Novara.
