Sep 15, 2021 at 7:27 PMThe German Logistics Congress from October 20 to 22 will take place not only digitally online but also as a hybrid event – with an in-person component in Berlin that finally puts personal encounters back in the spotlight. Networking will be possible based on a safety and hygiene concept. The congress is supported by the Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Enterprises of Berlin, as it contributes to the revival of the B2B event industry.
(Bremen/Berlin) As part of the funding, the Federal Association of Logistics (BVL) as the organizer also commits to a Sustainable Event Scorecard. The criteria include, among other things, the compensation of non-reducible CO² emissions, the planning of catering with sustainability considerations, the accommodation of all participants at the event location or within a three-kilometer radius, or the discounted offer of sustainable travel options by train.
The hygiene concept is based on official requirements and takes into account experiences and insights that the BVL and its partners have gathered at other events. Additionally, expertise from the state of Berlin as well as that of epidemiologist Prof. Brinks from the University of Witten-Herdecke is included. Brinks stated in an interview for the BVL that he believes, due to the good protective effect of the vaccine, that the congress can be conducted well and safely in October with an appropriate and responsible hygiene concept. “Perhaps this will convince some undecided individuals,” says BVL Chairman Prof. Thomas Wimmer.
The congress motto: Seize opportunities – Adapt to lead
The content of the congress is under the motto “Seize opportunities – Adapt to lead”. The logistics indicator for the third quarter has shown: The momentum from June is waning despite a very decent business situation. It is less about the pandemic, but rather tangible real economic challenges that are calling the recovery into question. “It’s not just ‘chips’ that are missing and temporarily leading to production stoppages,” says Wimmer, adding: “Shortages and price increases are being experienced by all industries, including steel, wood, and other construction and raw materials, as well as energy sources.” Logistics and supply chain management are now called upon to find new ways to deal with this. “We are not doing this for the first time, and we can do it well,” says Wimmer.
Supply chain management and logistics have been in a state of upheaval and constant change even before the Corona pandemic. Which technologies will influence value chains? How do we achieve true climate neutrality? How do we protect ourselves against cybercrime? High-profile speakers will share their expertise and provide exciting impulses.
German Logistics Award and Science Prize Logistics
Wednesday evening is traditionally dedicated to the awarding of the German Logistics Award at the congress. On Friday morning, the BVL will award the Science Prize Logistics with the support of McKinsey. The presentations of the scientists who reach the finals will take place this time as a digital pre-event before the congress.
