(Bonn) DHL has transported eight original film vehicles from Norwich, Norfolk in the UK across the Atlantic to Los Angeles, USA. The vehicles will be the main attraction of an exhibition at the Petersen Automotive Museum. DHL’s logistics experts have successfully managed transport and logistics services for the respective productions of the James Bond films since Casino Royale in 2006. This is further evidence of Deutsche Post DHL Group’s mission: Excellence. Simply Delivered.
“What was special about this assignment was the relatively tight schedule, the high value of the vehicles, and the temporary import permit, which meant that no import duties or taxes were levied. Care was also required in handling the vehicles: two of the cars, including the Aston Martin used for the spectacular flips in Casino Royale, could only be moved using specially made frames. For such individual requirements, we have expert teams, whether for technical challenges like these or for customs regulations. This allows us to ensure smooth processes even in cross-border transport,” explains Thomas Hofmann, Head of Auto-Mobility, DHL Global Forwarding.
Closed Car Carriers
Overall, DHL’s automotive logistics experts were responsible for the safe transport of five Aston Martins, two BMWs, and one Lotus Esprit S1, which is also known to fans as Wet Nellie from The Spy Who Loved Me. DHL also transported the most legendary Bond car, the silver-gray Aston Martin DB5, as well as the Aston Martin DBS. The vehicles were initially transported by sea freight to Houston, Texas (USA), and then traveled overland to Los Angeles. For safe road transport, DHL used special closed car carriers with air suspension. Thanks to DHL’s new FCL GoGreen Plus Service, which relies on sustainable shipping fuel, the entire transport of the vehicles from the UK to America was climate-neutral.
Important Project
“We are grateful for the collaboration with DHL in transporting these unique James Bond vehicles,” said Terry L. Karges, Director of the Petersen Automotive Museum. “This exhibition is one of the most important projects we have implemented so far, and DHL has supported us far beyond the usual level.”
