The Fifty Most Valuable Companies in Europe
The STOXX Europe 50 consists of the fifty most valuable publicly traded companies in Europe. The index was established in 1998 and is considered an important indicator of performance in the European stock market. The STOXX Europe 50 is among the leading underlying assets for index funds, futures, options, and certificates worldwide. The composition of the members is reviewed annually. The basis for classification is the market capitalization of the free float based on the closing prices at the end of August.
After the shares of Deutsche Post AG were traded at an issue price of 21.00 EUR at the IPO around 21 years ago and the rise to EURO STOXX 50 was achieved 8 years ago, the share price has increased to 59.58 EUR (closing price as of August 31, 2021). Thus, the market capitalization has nearly tripled to around 74 billion euros since the IPO.
