Sep 1, 2021 at 7:24 PMNexxiot, the innovative Swiss IoT company, and the Romanian railway company E-P Rail are entering into a partnership. The focus of the collaboration is not only on the digital transformation of rail freight transport but also on new and innovative services for E-P Rail’s customers.
(Zurich/Bucharest) With the new cooperation, E-P Rail and Nexxiot are advancing the idea of so-called TradeTech. This aims to redefine the potential of global supply chains through digitization. In the coming months, the entire E-P Rail freight wagon fleet will be equipped with IoT sensors. This enables global transparency and opens the door for the development of new, disruptive business models. Nexxiot is significantly expanding its activities in Eastern Europe with this new partnership.
Romania has the third-largest railway network in the European Union, and E-P Rail is currently one of the eight largest railway companies in the country. The company is well aware of the challenges in the market and the needs of its customers. To address these with the latest data-driven solutions and to advance its own business, the company focuses on developing cutting-edge technology. In close collaboration with other major railway operators and lessors, E-P Rail is always focused on creating value and digital services for its customers. The company has also developed its own mobile apps that assist in managing critical processes and creating transparency in operations. The inclusion of Nexxiot significantly increases the level of digitization.
Promoting a Culture of Innovation
Radu Gabriel Gheorghiu, owner of E-P Rail and CER Fersped, the affiliated freight transport company, promotes a culture of innovation in his companies: “We seek and integrate the best solutions for our freight customers. This ensures safety and the ability to always find the right transport for their specific needs and requirements. We are convinced of digital technologies and want to stay at the forefront of our industry through innovation. Nexxiot’s sensor gateways, their cloud-based software, and analytics will help us achieve our current objectives.”
Nexxiot will deliver around 1,100 gateway devices, known as Globehoppers, to the Romanian company in the coming months to digitize the entire wagon fleet. In addition to the Globehoppers, E-P Rail benefits from Nexxiot’s software, which cleans and analyzes the data. The specialized logistics cloud processes the collected big data using machine learning and algorithms. This enables E-P Rail to improve its operational performance and create new services that make its customers’ supply chains more transparent, flexible, and predictable. New freight services for end customers will also go online next year.
An Exciting Moment
Stefan Kalmund, CEO of Nexxiot, emphasized: “This is an exciting moment for both partners. Nexxiot has quickly evolved from an innovative, young IoT company to an industry leader in TradeTech. We work with deep analytics and use algorithms as well as the latest techniques in machine learning to process big data and generate both meaning and added value from the available data.”
